Ultimate Apocalypse is a mod for Dawn of War Soulstorm, which aims to create the most diverse possible unit and faction selection within the confines of the original DOW engine. We strive to create the most engaging and balanced Warhammer 40,000 game that we can, without sacrificing the fun factor. From hordes of Orks to the towering Titans, you can always find a new way to play UA. We invite all of you to join us on our Discord server to keep up with the development of the mod!
Today I've wanted to show you some of the Artefacts from our developers tomb.
On the picture you can see two concept drawings from the early days of the UA Mod that depict our approach on the two, mostly unknown, C'tan gods beeing the Void Dragen and the Outsider.
The plan was to introduce two more options for the Necron Lord to turn into. The particular C'tan God should've been available after devoting yourself to one of them (Pretty much as the Chaos God choice we have today in UA).
As you can see, due to my insufficient modelling skills back in the day, this concept has never made it officially into any UA release so far.
Mostly this project was abandoned in favor of other much more needed additions.
Since some time passed now (The pictures are from 2011!) would you guys like to see a comeback of these bad boys for the necrons for a more diverse necron playstyle?
We're talking about ideas such as:
- C'tan god choices affect your entire gameplay just like Chaos God choices
- Void Dragon is able to immediately repair yours and allied vehicles and snare/disable those of your enemy (The Void Dragen is told to be the Machine God/Omnissiah after all)
- The outsider affects the overall usefulness of your army, laying fear and terror over your enemies while supporting and buffing your own troops, ultimately driving your foes into madness!
Post your ideas and suggestions in the comments section and have a nice day!
-Cosmocrat
I may be a part of the team but, Yes! I would love to see these come back!
I agree so much with the ideas explained
I'd certainly like to see them in, although I always imagined the Void Dragon looking a bit more mechanical in a way since he controls machinery. Maybe he could also summon a pylon where abilities can't be used(temporarily of course!) or provided some anti-daemon debuffs in a large area?
I agree. It could be something like this Images.google.fr
Steampunk design but not too much
C'Tan are more... plastic in appearance. Compare them to the Necrons.
YES!
I want it!
This seems good. On another point, I'd like to see dynasty choices if possible.
I'd love to see the Outsider capable of doing a map-wide madness effect, similar to how a certain Chaos power works.
Void Dragon seems solid enough (though I do agree that due to his.. particular fluff he could do with some more mecha bits, and could totally see him able to outright steal vehicles as an option for Apocalypse tier. That superheavy titan walking towards us? Yoink! It belongs to me now!
As a necron player, i would love it if we could choose c'tans like that.
I wouldn't even really mind if the necron lord was unable to turn into the void dragon or the outsider, just the general god passive stuff would be great.
Yes, it will make the game a lot more challenging, whether you are playing with or against necrons you will have more ways you can play and try new strategies.
I dunno,in the current meta giving necrons global superpowers would make them the new eldar from how I imagine this
Yeah I'm on board!
I'd love to see those guys, but not as a sub-factions like gods for CSM. Just some game-changing units.
This would be amazing, but it would definitely take a lot of work to make a proper balance between them and other units. However, I strongly believe in the whole UA team so I hope that they will return one day.
Good!
Of course we want to see new gods Necrons... It opens up many new tactics for certain gods.
As much as I would love to see the Void Dragon appear in UA, the described abilities would be a bit much, even for UA at this point. Necrons are already very hard to keep down (they have pretty good armor, regeneration and can resurrect their fallen without any costs) so with something like the Void Dragon, being able to heal allied vehicles and turn off vehicles of the enemy, they would just become invincible.
The Necrons certainly do have their own advantages, but from my experience they're one of the less powerful factions in-game. They may be able to resurrect units; that's always on a cooldown and their reassembly passive can be lack luster. In stark contrast to a faction like the 'Nids, who can't be easily countered, have no chance at resurrection but don't need a chance. Spamming Gaunts early-game to destroy your enemies is great.
I can see where you're coming from; in the right hands the Crons can really kick ***. However, they'd probably be dealt a few nerfs to balance them with the new option of the C'tan, or possibly the C'tan will simply have realistic limitations on them to prevent them from being invincible. If worst comes to worst, throw an Emperor class titan at 'em!
YES!
void dragon and outsider are they fan made?
in the Warhammer 40k Universe
No, they are part of the universe although not much is known about either.
Do you ever see this models:

now i know thank you sir i was look at it on google i type all C'tan Gods yup they all real in the 40k Universe maybe i was thinking in tabletop silly me :P
This is not original C'tan shards, but them look realy awesome, I think.
okay
Also this Artwork is really good and I think i'll use this for a possible Void Dragon 2.0 Beastsofwar.com
Yes, I see this picture before, also see miniature maked by this model, but I really dislike this concept. Nevertheless C'tan has no material form and C'tan shard can take any shape. Void Dragon - god of technology and machines, so he may have corresponding shape.
You've got my vote. However, the exact method of implementation is something I'm not perfectly sure on.
Just try to make sure it isn't something you end up having to nerf the ever-unliving **** out of.
In the most recent update ive noticed that on (I think the obelisk) a warning about not using game enders, but they also have the word Triolith in there. Is that like a mega monolith, i looked online and couldnt find anything.
Triolith is likely an (early) Epic 40k unit or a Homebrew unit, and in either case, trying to find any info on it is pretty much near impossible.
I did manage to find something, though. On a particular forum, in a certain thread, there is a data sheet for it, among many other 40k units.
That's actually amazing because i've made up the Triolith completely from my Imagination alone.
Here's the picture of it, almost right at the end of our image section Moddb.com
The idea was to create something that fits the aesthetics of the necrons yet be a Titan of similar magnitude as the Adeptus Titanicus ones.
Would you mind sharing the link to that forum?
It's sounds like you try to reinvent the wheel...
Do you ever see necron starcrusher?

Not really reinventing the wheel though the idea was to create a Titan sized unit for Necrons that fit nicely amongst the Titans of the other races both firepower and size wise.
The Starcrusher though is way too huge and has too many guns, animating and OE coding all these would be a nightmare!
Doing the Triolith guns was already tedious and it only had 9 turnable guns, while the Starcrusher has 42(!) fully turnable gun emplacements X_X.
The reason why it becomes so tedious is because each and every gun that is supposed to be able tu turn around must have:
- 2 Aim animations for horizontal and vertical turning
- 1 Firing animation
- 2 New modifier variables to handle the turning of the gun
- 1 New action variable to handle the firing of the gun
This is the absolute minimum of work you have to do which makes about 6 items you have to create for ONE gun. Now multiply 42 guns with 6 items which makes 252 items in total and this is not even counting the FX and other work that needs to be done.
The cherry on top is that the OE has pretty much zero automatisation capabilities so you have to do everything repeatedly by hand, R.I.P.
The alternative would be not making the guns able to turn and be completely static but even then you'd still have to 1 firing animation and 1 action variable which reduces the work to 2 items which makes still about 84 items in total which is still madness.
Therefor I've created the Triolith to be kind of gap-filler between the Doomsday Monolith and the Starcrusher yet beeing powerful enough to take on enemy titans.
Hmmm, your Triolith concept looks interisting but its looks like structure. Can it move? What does it have in his arsenal? IMHO model need more details and higher texture resolution.
And probably this game need such epic units as Tesseract Vault, Lord of Skulls, maybe Tower of Skulls...
I say...YES!
Gib. And Triolith too.
Even if this can't be in official release of UA because of balance reasons,
can't it be added as an add-on? So everyone who want to see how it would be to destroy enemy with something bigger than a magic school bus or Imperator Titan?
This Void dragon is more mysterious
