It's been a long time since my last model check-in here on moddb so let's get started with this one! The lack of competing Dark Eldar Titans gave me the inspiration to bring up a new home-made all custom Titan as there's pretty much no other lore-friendly Dark Eldar Titan designs available.
The Instigator Titan is supposed to be the bad brother of the Eldar Revenant Titan. It's chassis is based upon the Tormentor Titan though it's meant to be bigger and pack more of a punch than the tormentor.
It's speciality though is to bring chaos and confusion amongst the enemy armies by shooting barrages of Horror-Gas at the enemy infantry, causing them to break morale/ fight each other on a large scale.
Meanwhile the Instigator Titan has enough time to go for the kill and then retreat quickly, since it has less shields and armor than similar sized Titans though.
It's biggest strength is it's agility. It can jumpjet over impassable terrain and is overall very fast to fit the general Hit-and-Run Strategy that Dark Eldars usually deploy on the battlefield.
This model is WIP and you now have the chance to bring in constructive ideas and suggestions for it's armament and other stuff you'd like to see. Feel free to drop a comment!
Have a nice day folks!
It looks badass for me :D.
Well, while I don't think I can bring in any weapons ideas (not too familiar with the Dark Eldar armoury) I must say this is spectacular and, really, looks like a complete model already. Excellent work so far!
if you ask me it looks too much like a person unless there are giant Dark Eldar I don't like it
First things first: nice Idea.
But let me suggest some physical changes:
1. you should definitely change the head and legs (both at least in size) since it looks a bit head-heavy and unstable. This might be because of the dark background (black on black is very metal, but not so good to see) but even if I assume that the legs would be twice the size of what I see, it still would be very fragile.
2. place a bunch of these Eldar stick-thingies on the back. Since the Dark Eldar still have a lot of Eldar-similar designs and the Instigator being somewhat similar to the Revenant it would fit the theme. Maybe exchange the crystals on these with some heads of the dead or something.
3. place some jump-packs on the shoulders/back. You could use some upscaled Chaos-Raptor jump-packs for these.
For the armarment:
you could start with the basic Revenant-armarments and upgrade one arm to a linked Tormentor-gun while the other arm gets either a blade or a granade-launcher for the horrorfex-granates (player decision). I wouldn't recoment to add the grenates as extras (like the rockets of the Revenant) since you're aiming for more agility and less head-on combat ability.
what a hell is this?
If Dark Eldar must have titans, then it should, of course, have high firepower and mobility at the expense of durability. Basic armaments for most vehicles are darklances or some variation thereof, because they're supposed to be very powerful. A scaled-up, palette-swapped version of the Phantom's weapons would work, or a scaled-up version of the Tormentor's ranged weapons, in addition to the grenades. It would be good if it had a melee upgrade of some kind or transport capability, but that's all secondary. Most importantly, it just needs to be fast, have high firepower and be very disruptive, but squishy as compared to other titans of its class. Lastly, such a fear-gas weapon would be called a Torment Grenade Launcher, according to modern fluff.
Its hard to tell something from this angle but in my opinion shoulders could be a bit wider and head a bit smaller
Wings like Scouragers. Make it fly.
Give the face a skull like feature, only with a lot of sharp teeth like this: Images.clipartof.com Only Sharp. Evil and badass scary.
Maybe use the head as a weapon like the Supreme Commander's Galactic or Universal Colossus.
Gameplay: Dark Eldar Phantom Titan. Only with a laser beam ripping thinpart instead of twin missile launchers, equipped with a soulstorm like aura (3D).
It needs wings though just like Scouragers. xD
Lengthen also the Dark Lances weapons!
Possible suggestions would be like Archon said: a Grenade Launcher, Reaver Jetbikes Blaster weapon upgrade which shoots dark matter chemicals (like a flame thrower), and a chemical weapon much like the Haemonculus, for morale and infantry devastation.
Dark Lances as upgrades not default like a Splinter Cannon as default weapon.
I almost forgot! The distentigrator!
Images clip art appears like the face of the Nazi's Red Skull from Capt. America! As for the Instigator concept, the head appears too fat like its some kind of trooper, could be more streamlined for a Titan. Super nice!
Please!!! don't forget Tyranids!!!!
I still don't think that the Dark Eldar should have titans, but they could look really cool and I guess if they're designed well they could be quite unique and interesting, fitting the DE aesthetic and combat style while also being worthy of being titans...
I know i'm minority opinion here but i feel like dark eldar shouldn't have titans, they don't in the lore at least and it makes sense, i think the focus should made on filling in the gaps with other units and keeping things mostly lore friendly i know no one will agree with me on this one but i though i might voice my opinion on it anyway
Actually, I do agree. But I'm not going to object to DE actually getting a new unit, lore-friendly or not. Any attention at all is refreshing.
I agree as well. I do not really endorse the use of un-lorefriendly stuff. It has happened here before, I know, and most of those units actually feel like they would be lore. But in this case, I do not think it is necessary. The Dark Eldar do not need another titan. They are strong enough as it is, in my opinion. Hell, I had difficulties defeating them with Angron (partially because he locked himself in his own base and then crammed it full of units and at least half a dozen Tormentor Titans...and the Warp Storm ability was on cooldown at that point of time).
Something like removing the Arch Angel would be a bad idea. It is not from lore but it will destroy balance of the Sisters.
Yup sorry. We're not removing Tormentors or Phoenix. They're fun... might as well add on! Plus it adds balance to the mod. Lore friendly also as Tormentors and Void Dragon Phoenix do exist.
Oh that's fine i don't want those things removed, but i would prefer if we don't add any more unfriendly lore stuff to the game, and add lore friendly units instead. :)
Should have no titan, Should have anti titan weaponry's, dark eldar equivalent of giant d-cannon fitted onto a skimmer frame, no other guns or crew (apart from gunner/driver)use in groups to damage the titans, jumping out its firing range, or use with distractions
Alternatively some kind of giant hell beast or machine beast
Not Bad, But rather Great!
I like it! Very creative
Better than just DE-ifying a normal Eldar titan :D
there are images, but as i almost never play with de wasnt interested to model any,and it look almost like revenant titan in de colours

Hard to believe that the DE don't just have a giant Titan covered in darklances.
Like, 30 of them.
Instead of the vulcan megabolter, have a vulcan megadarklance.
Hundreds of them
Make a necron titan already :/
ps : it look cool by the way, i don't like dark eldar that much but that titan is kewl
that looks really cool. i can't wait to field it :)
