Twisted Insurrection is a critically acclaimed, standalone modification based on the Command & Conquer™ Tiberian Sun™ engine. It features a complete redesign of the original game, set in an alternate "what-if?" timeline where the Brotherhood of Nod was victorious during the first Tiberian War. Do you have what it takes to drag the shattered Global Defense Initiative out of ruin? Or will you crush all who oppose the will of Kane and his Inner Circle? The choice is yours commander.

Some info about technical limitations of Desura.

Posted by on

Three TS mods were published on Desura.

Due to several technical limitations of Desura, installing stand-alone TS mods can be a bit complicated, namely:
- Desura requires TS to install TI, DTA and ROTD (even though they themselves are stand-alone), since Desura can't install stand-alone mods without checking if you have the original game first
- Desura can't search folders on the main disk, just folders in Program Files directory and via Windows reg keys, so anybody who has the game installed to Westwood\Sun can experience problems with finding the game through Desura (if Desura fails to find it via the reg key)

Desura installs TI, ROTD and DTA to the following directory:
\Program Files\Desura\Common\

Reg keys used to detect if TS is installed:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Westwood\Tiberian Sun\InstallPath (should be able to detect the game installed in \Westwood\Sun directory)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Command and Conquer The First Decade\ts_folder

There's a strange font problem with The Dawn of the Tiberium Age mod, so it'll be released later (if debugged).

Please e-mail problems and issues with installing mods through Desura at support@desura.com and feillyne@desura.com NOT to developers of mods (Desura releases are same as the main ones, but there still can be problems with the app itself) or alternatively visit desura.com/support page

I have no idea with what you mean with "There's a strange font problem with The Dawn of the Tiberium Age mod" (this is the first time I've heard of it), so please clarify. It would also help if you'd mention this on DTA's page instead of on TI's, considering I don't check here quite as often.

Sorry, and it's a feature on TI and ROTD's pages, not just TI. Planned to send you log + screenshot shortly. That was just a quick explanation why the third mod didn't get published with the others.

Oh, I see. In any case, is that "font problem" an issue with Desura or with DTA itself?

DTA or Windows, tried both 1.11001 and 1.11004 releases and the same error shows up. I played & enjoyed earlier versions of DTA, so dunno why newer versions suddenly don't work.

(I'm the creator of the Launcher) Sounds like a Windows issue based on some logfiles etc. Bittah sent me, particularly your Trebutchet MS font being missing for some reason (despite it being included on a clean Windows installation).

Yep, it's Windows issue. Though it's hard to tell what made this particular font vanish. Thanks for help of you all.

Glad to hear it works now :)

Is there any way you can make Desura not require the original game to be installed for stand-alone mods in the future by the way?
Considering Tiberian Sun is freeware nowadays and it works perfectly fine without having any registry keys, having Desura check for those registry keys could cause problems for a lot of people.

Hmm, requested such feature on Desura forums a couple of months ago, but Desura app developer has too much on his hands it seems: Indiedb.com
