Total Chaos is a total conversion mod for Doom 2 that runs on the GZDoom source port. The mod is a survival horror set on a remote island known as Fort Oasis. The island was once run by a community of coal miners which one day suddenly disappeared, leaving behind the abandoned concrete jungle to waste away. Something, clearly, has gone very wrong with this place. Upon your arrival at Fort Oasis, you receive a strange radio transmission. Someone wants to be found.

10/10 mod i didnt even know that doom 2 could have such stunning graphics or 3d models! but here we are with total chaos. if you love survival horror games than PLAY, THIS, MOD!!!! it is worth your time!

One of the best horror games I've ever played, one of my favourite games I've ever played, and the biggest, most technically impressive game I've ever played, even more impressive than Cry Of Fear. You can really tell that this game was made almost ENTIRELY by one man with it's very clear and thought out sense of direction. I would never consider this as a "doom 2 mod", this is it's own game, in a league of it's own. To me, it's genre defining. When I think survival horror, I think: Cry Of Fear, Darkwood, Total Chaos. This is just such a good game.
The melee combat is tricky to get the hang of at first, but very satisfying to pull off. Ranged combat is only until a little later in the game when you have stockpiled up a bit of ammo. It is really just super satisfying to blow away monsters and flips around the odds of a battle. Imagine, you're fighting off a dozen monsters with a dinky little pickaxe in a cramped room, exhausted, dodging out of the way of every swing and thrown brick heading your way, when all of a sudden your pickaxe snaps, leaving you defenseless and open for the final blow. Then the entire battle swan-dives into your favour as you pull out your trusty shotgun with 20 shells you've been saving for the past hour. You blast away all the twisted foes and find a secret stockpile of food and ammo behind a pallet you accidentally shot during the massacre.
Sounds fun, right?
That's what keeps pulling me back to this game, again and again.
You're never super powerful. Hell if you have too much good stuff on you, you'll be encumbered! It's perfect game balance that is just soooo good.
I implore everyone to at least try this game, it's amazing and a work of art.
I'll expand on this review and all the pros and cons of the game in a video essay that I've been working on for a while. It should come out by the end of the year, but y'know, I'm lazy.
Thank you Wadaholic, so much, for making this game.
