Tiberian Eclipse is being designed to improve upon the concepts of C&C4. Improved gameplay, new features, and an evolution between Westwood's & EA's concept of tiberium will be presented. Experience the return of some of your favorite units, evolution of others, and entire new ones in what we hope will come together to make a great conclusion of the C&C: Tiberium Series.

Ok, just for a break down for those who catch this message. I will do my best to release a update in the next few weeks. In the meantime, a few basic questions to answer: This mod is being based on UDK for the flexibility and future support of the engine, and the mod will be stand alone so no purchases will be necessary.

Sage is good for RTS, but seeing its potential/evolution since the days of C&C1, I feel it would be better for the mod and the community to use a engine that is updated every month (as opposed to Sage's "never unless we make another quick game"). Additionally by using the UDK, we can establish our own server system where people don't have to use hacks or closed networks like Hamachi, or worry about finding a game with the 100 people playing globally on the EA servers.

The game is being planned with 3 systems in place. RTS, FPS, and Hybrid. I know that by utilizing the UDK we can incorporate all 3 systems. These systems are listed in order of priority:

RTS: UDK Engine, C&C Style play - The graphics and gameplay will be extremely similar to the mechanics of C&C3. The major differences here will be the interface and obviously the tech structure/abilities.

FPS: Like Renegade, Tiberium and MW2, the goal here is to establish a few missions and the ability to jump directly into the game to get a First person view of whats going on, from shooting players to sneaking into bases to plant an artillery beacon, to using FPS controls to out maneuver vehicles that would normally have an advantage over you in RTS play.

Hybrid: This mode will probably take the longest to incorporate. The idea is to allow players to switch between RTS and FPS views to control armies and sneak into bases. Obviously there will be tactical advantages to each mode.
Now, Its taken a lot of work to get to the point we are at today, from struggling with the community to mutiny on board to establishing a method for the game to defining the units list. Essentially we have defined our units for the game +/- some final tweaks, and we are working on concepts which I will work to release at a reasonable rate. Now I will say this, the concepts are nothing fantastic, as PizzaAtomica is not currently working with our team, but at least we are making progress. It's been a struggle to this point because we do not have very much community support, but despite the majority instantly writing this mod off as "fail" without any supporting evidence or seeing anything of what we can do, I am determined to keep this mod together and eventually release something the community can enjoy.

The love of the game started in 1995 with C&C1, and that will never be forgotten or ignored, despite what some may like to think. This game is being developed to bring the fun back into C&C. I tend to believe many have forgotten how fun the old games were when we were younger.

Update: I think I've found a RTS framework for UDK that should help speed things along.

Seems like a cool idea to bring back Tiberium and your original idea. The hybrid sounds kinda like what RUSE did.

Yeah, camera view setup, object (unit) selection, and so on.

You know, one can always ask Renegade X team, I suppose, only constructing buildings should be rather done via GUI/interface only not through triggers (& inside buildings).

Would advise to check out Savage 2. There you have one player (of a whole team) who has commander abilities.
Perhaps you could go with such a system.

One player can build buildings, also on the go in-game, and others would mainly support him and the base. If you mean FPS/Hybrid. Because RTS itself should feature only commanders.

That is what I always picture when people say hybrids. I think that would be an interesting take to how game play is considering it would be on two real levels although would be fairly difficult to implement though. :/

Haha, mutiny, love it. That alone makes this worth tracking.

As a side note, if it's standalone, you should make the profile reflect that as a game on the UDK engine instead of having it listed as a UT3 mod.

And it'd be very nice of you if you'd help/make mod teams by sharing your work on how to make an RTS after you've done it yourselves. I.e. to transfer C&C mods, at least some of them, to free and available for all, UDK.

Maybe there's some hope for the future of C&C. :-P

That's actually a great idea! So many modders have been opposed to sharing there codes over the years, I think its about time we started releasing tips and secrets on what we learn and how to accomplish things! I'll be sure that once we start getting together our scripts, I'll release my code and any mod code under a GPL.

Isn't it funny how the C&C 4 playing crowd did what the classic C&C crowd did?

Anywho, good luck on the transition, I look forward to playing this someday.

I'll Give you this, Going Fresh is always good, but I was Expecting an RTS that would Fix EA's Wrongs not exactly some sort of Experimental hybrid You've lost me and maybe some other people when doing this switch.
All I Can say is Good Luck.

I understand some of you may lose interest, and thats understandable given so few details are released. Hopefully once we get the mod to an alpha state some of you would be willing to take it for a test drive. I'd also like to know if anyone would be able to run servers for games and a large scale server for epic continual battles.

Actually, there's a HL1 mod I use to play that I consider the best, and I would like to incorporate into the game for the FPS mode. I dont remember the mod name, but essentially You customize your character via points. X weapon costs Y points, Z armor costs T points, etc. Picking your basic character frame (light, medium, heavy) determined your speed and amount of point you could allocate pre-game/between spawns.

UDK engine is to rad for mah comp to handle -_- but that's all i've got against it, UDK would give u more versatility to take the game in the direction u want the only downside is loss of low-end users but even i think it's a risk worth taking and i'll still be interested regardless... i miss westwood :(

Hmmm, the final end-user game could be always looked at by somebody to optimise the performance and allow less efficient PCs to follow well enough. Don't know about devs though. For dev work it's always nicer to have decent machines, whether it's UDK or SAGE.
