nice is little...man what the hell... but they will big like olgag hai or oliphaunts?but if i remember in simarillion they are not much bigger than a man...
must say i'm surprised that the balrog is being included... i am going to find it difficult to see how it is going to work within the game...
What will be the stats of the thing? Personally i feel the bigger beasts in this mod disrupt the gameplay slightly but will interseted to see how this plays out
Alright. Seeing THAT image of the Balrog has convinced me to ask for Medieval II for Xmas. Everything else is TOP notch, so including it in your work is the candle on the cake. Now all we need is a dragon or two to light it!
But from all of the footage I've seen, is it even possible to have flying creatures operable?
i think a balrog like the movie would be good but the face i think its a little weird but what about make different make a balrog like the one in simarillion, using some tolken illustrations, i think there is one of morgoth chief captain fighting a elf, in wikipedia
I'm pretty confident that they have yet to add any burning effects to the model as it's depicted here. It's such an obvious feature, and consistently missing from its entire body, that I'm fully confident that we're seeing the model sans any of the flame/orange-red hot coal burning effects that engulfed the Balrog in the films. The smoke's missing as well. To have all of these features missing by "accident" is not a plausible explanation. I'm sure that once the hot coals/fire/smoke effects are added that we'll have a tough time discerning this beast from the one in the film. Even though I've yet to get Medieval II, I've watched plenty of the videos, and the game is MORE than capable of realistically depicting all of the effects that are "missing" here. I'd relax about it. I've never played this mod, but it's OBVIOUS that this team is far too polished to allow something like that to slip through.
some advice
1/ like everybody is saying : add more fire IF it is possible
2/ the fact that Balrog has "wings" has never been proved ... but most people would give them "wings" so it is ok ...
2/ more important, the face of the current model is not that great if you ask me. The main probleme is on the eyes that are not placed correctly or the horn that are too much in front on the face
still very good work men !
EDIT : oh, I know, you are inspiring yourself from this Balrog

so ... your model makes more sense now ...
I have grown with one :

Balrogs were first summoned to war by Morgoth (or Melkor), the god and king of darkness. Sauron was one of Morgoth's many Captains as was Gothmog, lord of balrogs. Gothmog killed a highelf king named Fingon in the battle of the unnumbered tears. It was Echthelion who killed him at last, during the sack of Gondolin.
After all those thousends of years balrogs still remained in middle earth.
I was just wondering is it possible to have on the campaign to have the cities actually what they were like in the movies? and also are you working on makin it so you can play in citys on custom battle? BTW SUPER GREAT MOD!!!!!!!
Meh , loks nice , but iirc really the Balrog has no obvious form, it is usually described as a flaming figure in the shape of a man. Even Peter Jacksons depiction of it is a little off of the actual figure described by Tolkien. the whip was correct , but not so sure on the wings.
Why not just port in the model from The Battle For Middle Earth II? Or base it off that. The work you've done with this one is certainly impressive, but it doesnt really inspire fear when i saw it facing my army as did the 9 and Sauron. A bit of mirth, and shock actually.
great work with this model nd stuff, but i was quite dissapointed about the size, i no in the film technically the balrogs were not that big, but if you could just increase the size maybe atleast to an olog-hai or mumakil at most? pleeeeeaaaaseeee? :D
Pretty good, but could use more fire, also is it just me or do the eyes seem the tiniest bit off...? I think both the nose and eyes could do with being moved down a bit and then it would look great :)
!??!?!?!?!!? what the hell???
that looks insane
but in medieval 2 total war, how does that even work!?
Great model! :)
Really cool ;) but maybe a little more fire and glow to the texure, otherwise cool :P
Yes, i agreed with Baver33.
I just hope he is a one time non-faction unit...I dont wanna have horde of OoTMM running toward me with this thing at their head!!
AWESOME, give him to OotMM or I'll mod him in myself!
When will 1.4 be out?
More flames ;)
This is just a preview it will look much sweeter in game, Amazing as always KK ....
Nice!

Thats true they were about the size of a small Troll according to the book...
Very cool! But wth more fire this will be great!

Doesn't look happy

Bit more glowing cracks in it's skin, but KICKASS.

Is it even possible for there to be just one of them at a time it would be awesome to see one in this game even if it was against me
Wow, great job!
This mod is getting better and better...
great
Sexy :D

but, again, it is your mod, good luck !
John Howe, a great artist.
His eyes are growing out of his horns
King Kong is King!
I really love the model!

Great creatures these balrogs are!
Quick question guys. How many Hobbit archers is it gonna take to bring this one down? Hahaha :P
Nice nice nice nices!!!!!! you are a maniac of the modelling xDDDD! Great work dude
Cool unit, BUT they are TOOO strong!
An hour ago i was attacking Moria and the enemy had JUST 5 balrogs and the fu**ed my army very easily!
My archers + infantry (~1000/500soldiers) attacked them the whole time, but they didn't die, so there was just a win possible, as the time past...
That's the only thing, which i don't like, the whole mod is very great!
RESPECT!:-)
Its a demon, you can´t kill him with swords, as Gandalf already said ;-)
I was just wondering is it possible to have on the campaign to have the cities actually what they were like in the movies? and also are you working on makin it so you can play in citys on custom battle? BTW SUPER GREAT MOD!!!!!!!
Requires magma veins and kickass whip!
MORE FLAMES PLS!!Otherwise immensely epic
invisible for me? Nah gandalf made short work of one when i was playing as eriador, problem is there was two so poor gandalf got owned.
Power is ok for them, maybe nerf the health abit?
would be awesome if they could swich attack, like a fireball for a ranged attack, maybe take the animation from a trabuche or sumthing like that...
how will
he be used in the game? sorta like battle for middle earth2 or summin....?
it looks like diablo
good

Now we just need Gandalf the Grey unit to counter this new threat! lol

The balrog is way more red and flamey.
I've installed both 2.0 and 2.1 but i can't find anywhere to press launch
he needs a tail (whip)
