We have nothing to give you but your own freedom. [...]
If it is the future you seek, then I tell you that you must come to it with empty hands. You must come to it alone, and naked, as the child comes into the world, into his future, without any past, without any property, wholly
dependent on other people for his life.
You cannot take what you have not
given, and you must give yourself. You
cannot buy the Revolution. You cannot
make the Revolution. You can only be
the Revolution. It is in your spirit, or it
is nowhere.

- Ursula K. Le Guin, The Dispossessed

This total transformation mod (not following Fallout lore) aims to bring to life anarchist utopias after Global meltdown. It takes place in eastern part of former Canada and United-States. The game is a bilingual (french & english) single player non-linear RPG. It can be called a radical camping simulator or a positive post-apocalyptic game. The world has been challenged by the Sum of all heavily anticipated catastrophies. Humans survived and organised themselves according to a mix of anarchistic, aboriginal, technological and nomadic ways of living, mostly driven by anarchist ideas (anti-domination, direct democracy, freedom and autonomy). In-game, "Sum" refers to the sum of all catastrophies, a cult, a currency and mispellings of words "son" and "sun". The Sum (french version : Nous Aurons) is an art project created by the french-canadian artist Hugo Nadeau (www.hugonadeau.com).

Hello, I've been enjoying the mod so far. My only gripe with the mod is that my character for some reason cannot equip any clothing so far. My companions can but my main just won't. Maybe it is because I changed from female to male on creation?

Also, when using tent to heal monkey companion it gets stuck in the tent.

And one of the companions you get if you start in corpses has no animations for shooting and cannot crouch or prone.

But being unable to wear any armor really makes it bad in high rad zones or in big combat

Edit: I tried restarting the same campaign just to see if body change or something else caused it and I remade my character to the letter, changed body, portrait, body color scheme. I can wear clothes. I don't know what caused me to be unable to wear clothing later on or how to fix it

p.s. watercooler can store an endless amount of items because it is just a trading npc in disguise

Ah thanks for all these comments. It's sad about the armor bug you encountered. I heard it once from another player too, but I was never able to pinpoint the source of that rare bug, or reproduce it. A shame because I am currently creating a big patch (debug) version with some new mechanics to improve a lot on the gameplay, It could be a good opportunity to remove it, if it is even possible. The original engine can have very strange behaviours from time to time...

Hehe yess as the watercooler is in fact the quartermaster in disguise, everything there is swallowed into a parallel universe without limit. I hope this is not killing the immersion for you, better only use it to store your food and let it be used to spawn cooked meat and other delicacies. I don't think there will ever be a way to limit those items there, but yeah, this is a videogame afterall, sometimes realism is away fishing. Like the new keyring I added could hold 1000 keys, a bit heavy for any normal living an breathing human :P

Thank you for the mod. It is fun to play. The map is almost too big. Haha. It is a fun total conversion.

I will try to report all the bugs I can remember once I beat the mod (for me beating means visiting all locations on the map and destroying all settlements xD)

If I find what cause the armor bug I will report it but it must be something that happens after starting location.

Is there any program or anything I can use to perhaps edit my ability to wear armor or equip some armor in editor? That would be nice.

Anyway, thanks again. I am enjoying the gameplay and I do not really mind bugs there are not too many and they aren't that bad. In fact they make me find ways to find interesting solutions to my problems.

I have a hunch that maybe you could not wear armor as your charisma got at 1 at some point... I added that 2 charisma requirement for armors to make sure Dogs and other recruits would not be able to wear armors. It might simply be that. So to make sure you can wear any armor, you will have to make sure you have enough strenght and always 2 or more charisma. Fortunately, your current version of the game feature alcool that give a bonus of 1 to charisma, bonus that I removed in my current built. As dogs could drink alcool, it would probably make them wear armors after drinking alcool which makes no sense.

This said, Yess please report any bug you come across. But note that many of them risk being already covered by Endocore, as he reported me about 200 of those in the last weeks. I am in the proecess of solving them at the moment, and I think I have about 100 more to go before releasing my next "debug" version. In this version, it will get CONSIDERABLY more difficult to explore the whole map, as traveling will induce possibly lethal hunger to all your squad members. I will try, still, to add some options in a text file to reduce or disable that feature if you really want to travel the whole worldmap. Let's hope this will be easy to implement.

Thank you for the reply and yes. You were right. It was because I had 1 Charisma. I did find it strange people started with 2 charisma when you got rid of all stats. Now I know why.

I drank a beer and was able to put on some armor. After the beer effect worn off I was still wearing it and getting stat boosts from armor so that is nice.

I do not know if I did not see the instructions about wearing armor when I started playing but I don't think I missed them. It would be nice if that 2 Charisma armor requirement was put into the GPSP instructions.

It could potentially become a problem in the next version of the game if charisma goes below 2 and there is no way to increase it save the perk but what if having a perk is not enough because it goes down 3 or 4 times and you absolutely need drugs or alcohol to remedy charisma attribute?

On the other hand if this is explained it could lead to some interesting character builds. Like playing a dumb character in original Fallout games you could end up playing a character so ugly his body is malformed and thus he can't wear armor. Which could lead to an interesting playthrough as I had to come up with solutions playing like that.

I guess my charisma went down one of the times I was using those rare drugs that boost other stats permanently.

Dogs wearing armor huh. That could be interesting. I mean I can imagine carving out dog armor out of regular armor so it does not break my roleplay much. On the other hand I do know what you mean. Maybe add dog armor? Other games have done it. But it could be difficult and I am not the judge of what you should work on since this is a free mod and it is nice having to play it.

As for hunger on the travel map. It can be hard for casual players to acquire enough food to explore the entire map. But it could be a good and a bad thing at the same time.

Right now I have more than enough food because I store it all in the watercooler. Because watercooler is limitless it means I can always have enough food provided I find it.

If watercooler had a limit or the trader that it really is refused to buy certain items it would be harder.

Without hunger on the map I have stacks of food I don't really use and I always have enough on me from raiding settlements and the like.

But if you implement this feature then interacting with or raiding certain settlements will become almost mandatory to survive travelling on the world map which could be fun.

I am playing real time combat, on easy difficulty (just for a chill playthrough), squad of 6 all using diamond spears so far to save up ammo for tough fights. We don't really have a problem winning combat by surrounding people and poking them to death. Maybe it would be harder on higher difficulty using these tactics.

Thanks and very cool picture on your profile

Okay neat, I took a note about adding that 2 CHA requirement for armors. Not perfect as it will show differently than the ST requirement, but I'll try to figure something out that works well.

You also make me realize I need to search and remove all possible effects that might reduce charisma, like the permanent drug (probably the sort of FEV), addictions and other types of effects. Quite sure we can go without them and still have a good realist experience.

Dog armor: Unfortunately, what I meant was that dog wearing armor would probably result in having them change their appearance for a human lol :P If there would be a way to keep it, it would in a way be a nice thing yes, as it is always possible, theorically, to "modify" an armor to fit a dog yess...

As for hunger, I think players will appreciate that I already programmed a small config file to disable it completely, or to tweek its intensity value... Some more options might appear there later on, giving me the opportunity to go strongly with some survival mechanics without fear of having the game being unplayable to casual gamers. Casual gamers are a big concern for me because I used to and plan on having this game displayed in exhibition centers and other art dedicated spaces... I don't want them to quickly die and move on without having experienced any interesting narrative part.

Interacting with settlements: I took a note to create a new feature involving vendors in settlements. I would love them to automatically replenish their inventory of food, water and money on each visit, based on the days passed sinced the last visit. This would be nice to be able to count on vendors for food for the entire duration of the game, not just the beginning, I mean until you have bought everything.

Combat tactics: Pretty great tactic for fighting. I guess it should work good on harder difficulty too, as the diamond spear is one of the best melee weapon in the list. I also increased the melee damage on my last working version, to account for the extra risk of closing the gap. Hope you'll like it!

Holy cow! never thought a total conversion like this was possible with the tools available for fallout tactics. With your skills you could help the guy also working on another mod called enclave were the player takes the role of the antagonist from fallout 2.

Also, if you are interested with the engine new found possibilities, you'll be amazed by the next version of The Sum that I am working as an army of monkeys to complete. There will be a new Travel hunger system, taking track of the days you travel and killing you if you travel for too long without eating, a keyring to gather all your keys in one place and a new series of other mechanics to combine items of various origins, names and sprites to one stack, like all those junk small items that serve as a currency, the "trinks".

Oh yess! I was in communication with RobertHouse for a long period a while back, the guy that took the Enclave work from GunnerShi, debugged it and ported it to various platforms. Unfortunately, I think it is not being worked on anymore, as well as Enclave 2. Or I only didn't receive news from RobertHouse for quite some time. The last time we exchanged, there was some discussion about using The Sum as a starting platform for a mod he was working on, maybe Enclave 2, maybe Project Safehouse. I might interest myself on improving the Enclave mod one day as it does not seem to be too hard work. But before, I would like to spend some days on Redux mod to improve its item sprites, and maybe some portraits. Not much else would be needed there to make it the very best way to play the original campaign :D

Having trouble getting this to run with the older GoG version of Fallout Tactics on windows 10. I know it is standalone, however, the reason it crashes/fails to launch seems to be the same.
It's in the C Drive, and starts a Fallout Tactics window which is white and not responding, refusing to load.

Absolutely. Not only you don't need any other copy of Tactics, but also you must run it using FT Improver.exe and not BOS.exe as you are used to with Tactics. BOS.exe will create crashes, or at the very least have a lot of missing features, like custom armors, ammos and broken triggers. And I never use it myself, so it is in no way tested other than with FT Improver.exe.

I've used that and the shortcuts in the folder. It's not even launching, it's opening windowed and with a white screen with the audio logo flashing, the A with the little road leading up to it. Then the logo goes away and it stops responding.
