This total transformation mod (not following Fallout lore) aims to bring to life anarchist utopias after Global meltdown. It takes place in eastern part of former Canada and United-States. The game is a bilingual (french & english) single player non-linear RPG. It can be called a radical camping simulator or a positive post-apocalyptic game. The world has been challenged by the Sum of all heavily anticipated catastrophies. Humans survived and organised themselves according to a mix of anarchistic, aboriginal, technological and nomadic ways of living, mostly driven by anarchist ideas (anti-domination, direct democracy, freedom and autonomy). In-game, "Sum" refers to the sum of all catastrophies, a cult, a currency and mispellings of words "son" and "sun". The Sum (french version : Nous Aurons) is an art project created by the french-canadian artist Hugo Nadeau (www.hugonadeau.com).

I had to disable my anti-virus to play this, I have also had the anti virus try removing Robert House's launcher mods, but trust me on this I've tried them both and they're perfectly safe.

nous aurons.exe and the sum.exe are also totally safe to use, even if your anti-virus may try to remove them. They are really simple .exe files to execute FT Improver.exe with a parameter (english or french) in the Game folder.

Few problems I have is the translations either not being there or being off by a little, I've yet to see the translation be off by a mere word or a letter. It's spot on, on where it's at so far at least. I also like the little thing of finding supplies ect, adds in the factor I wanted in Fallout Tactics but got something else. There is a problem that I've found though apart from the translations since I know they'll take time. If more than one dog attacks you and surrounds you, you get crippled and sometimes really can't fight back, unless of course you kill those dogs before they get too close. My character is fairly early so I've yet to master any types of combat. I can only do unarmed/melee attacks and so far, the dogs are my weakness. All I've done so far was find dead bodies and loot them and put together a fairly nice outfit and weapon. I'm hoping to find a nice house to set up in since I've just finally gathered the supplies needed to create a home. I'd give this mod a solid 8/10. The atmosphere from the music disheartens me, it's got a good breather within the places I go to. I hope the translations come sooner than 2018 and I give you good luck on your future releases.

Thank you so much for your comments! Yeah it is true that translations still cause a problem in my mod. First I didn't made any real revision of the texts I wrote or translated, I am not so good in english so there is still so much work to do there. But another thing is that I WANT the game to present both french and english dialogues, depending where you are in the map and who you are speaking to. It is an artistic choice I decided to make. You have to be bilingual to understand everything. I will make this more obvious tough to make sure nobody takes that for a game bug. A kind of notice in blue before the text saying : "[This person adresses you in french]", something like that.

Besides that, I will take your comment and remove some dogs from the game to make things easier a little. And add more interesting houses to set yourself up into. A nice trick in the game is to use one of the "eVAC" devices to teleport yourself to a particular map and setup your camp closeby there. There are 4 different eVACs in the game. That means you could always reach your camp instantly when you are playing, and it also works with the cars you are using.

Enjoy playing the mod and please be patient for new releases. I can say already that I will exhibit the game in next septembre, so expect another revised version of the mod around that time, filled with new quests and contents!

I found a bug, special mission Voiture, something like that doesn't launch and actually crashes you to the main menu. So whenever I go into a region where that mission was supposed to go off it completely hits me to the main menu and tells me something is wrong with it.

Oh yes I know there is a bug with some special missions that I decided to remove (I really had too much missions), but somewhat was unsuccessful to remove them on the Worldmap for now. If you want to quickly get rid of that bug, you take in note the mission name that can't open and duplicate one of the special maps (.mis file) in the core/missions/special folder and give it the exact name that is missing.

hehe A LOT, something like 4 years of creation at this point, most of those full time, but I have so much fun working on it and it is part of a larger artwork including shows, performances and exhibitions. I also recieved grants for it from the art world, which helped a lot.

Soooo here s the thing, started the TheSum.exe while there was no custom character,, i modified one, not many things to change though... still did found quest starters, not even ways to recruit. i know you made a great game and i got no complains and by 98% its perfect/// but those two litle thingys are the main reason i chose to play games... custom main character and a group of misfits...
p.s great work with the music.. total wastelandish

Hi there! Thanks for your comments! I am afraid there are not a lot of quest starters at this point... but I intend to put about 3 per city, for a total of 75 quests of various kind. Also, I decided to hide most of the recruiting options for more challenge. To get them, you first have to get accepted in a community (by meeting their requirements - after clicking the button DO (skilldex) and then "Live here" and talking to somebody). If they accept you, some buttons with "Friends" marked on them will appear in the city directly with 1 to 4 recruits per city, for a total of 100 recruits for the whole game... You can get more recruits (with sometimes very high level) based on your negociation skill and charisma...

I am sorry I just COULD NOT keep the "Custom" button in my mod, because I use a special tag for the main character and the custom character never have one... So sadly with custom character the game crashes... But I understand you.. that is my way of playing too... :( You also can't customize much your character because I wanted to get rid of tag skills to simplify the game and encourage the player to do something else than specialize in one character style... Maybe it was a mistake to get rid of the mini-buttons all together I don't know. This is a game where you need as many high diverse skills as you can to advance. But at the same time, you can always count on other characters for this later in the game...

Hi there!

Oh yess this is a known bug. It is happening because I removed many unused missions maps a while ago, and for some reason, I failed to remove entirely "tente8.mis" from the Worldmap special encounters.

So! Solution is : Folder "game/core/missions/special", duplicate any tente**.mis file, rename it tente8.mis and the bug will not appear again. You can reload a previous saved game and it will work. In the future, I intend to recreate the worldmap from an improved image, so the bug will be eliminated.

Hi, Author of this great mod! I would like to write some ideas for your later mod versions such are (sorry my english):
+ wear (deterioration) of weapons, armor, all items = it would add a lot atmosphere to game and make it a lot more interesting.
+ more different encounters = becouse it is so nice to travel on the map and meet different patrols, supermutants, ingineric and military robots, ghouls, caravans (would be perfect), Aliens, raiders, marauders, bandits, mafia, like in fonline but PVe, offline. Becouse creators of online fallout not want to give their SDK to play offline, but ordinary human without programming skills cannot do suck SDKs, so if you can do such content offline you will became everybodys Hero!.
+ Farm quests and farm locations offline would be so cool to walkthrough! I mean repeatable farm locations, with time reset.
+ crafting to see is very interesting.
+ more gaming parameters to have and choices.
If you could implement in your game such ideas I think many players would want to play...

Hi! Thanks for your comments and suggestions! I think I will be able to give a satisfactory answer to most of your suggestions in my next version, in the best of my abilities dealing with Tactics engine. At this moment in the version I work on :

+ Wear (deterioration) : It is not possible to implement I think because I can't save any variable informations on items...

+ more encounters : I am recreating the Worldmap to drain most of the Great Lakes water out, so I will add more encounters at the same time (bad and good), and also revise XP given by encounters.

+ Farm quest : Hum... Interesting! That may be feasible. I am actually creating quests for the game, so I will keep this in mind and try to create farming quests in some cities.

+ Crafting : I already created a crafting algorithm, but this is really basic. It is checking for your "Repair" and "Search" skills when you are in random encounters locations, and if you don't have any of the following items : knife, bedroll, spear, sharpened stick, shoes, armor, gun..., your character may create one of those items by himself. There are also many joke items to be found, like lost teeth, bed bugs, old newspaper with easter egg news, etc.

+ more gaming parameters and choices : Characters are now a little bit more customizable, you can now recruit 5 types of robots that reappear in the recruit pool if they are killed, you can destroy a military base with a nuclear bomb, you may be able to destroy any of the cities in the game with a hidden nuclear bomb truck, you will be able to help people in all the locations in the game, often by creating problems for other communities.. etc.

I think the best of the choices are to come... Keep posted for my next update!

I try to play mod with different version. 1.4, 1.3 and 1.2 same problem make it impossible to play. When character achive leven 10 or so. Some encounters appear as trouble. Only command menu bar botthom, and black screen above. Then game crash. Wery good mod, but every random or special encounters result as trouble.

Hum... Very strange bug. I'll be surprised if it has something to do with the level... Hopefully when I'll recreate the whole random encounters the problem will be solved. I'll test it with level 10+ characters. I didn't have any bug with them so far, but who knows, I may find something. Strange too that it has a black screen AND the game crashes. Normally, one or the other happen, but not both. It is either some missing player spawning point, a misplaced spawning point (placed outside playing area), or a bad trigger that cause the game to crash without warning... I would bet for a trigger. I'll have a lot to investigate on this, but I'll find a way to remove this bug.

Excellent mod !
Just start playing - Instant like :)
RPG feeling is great.
Different starting locations depending of which character you take was a great idea.
I am sure that final version will be a pure 10.

Few things:
1. How do i use crowbar to open doors ?
One of the videos shows that i just click on crowbar and then on the door.
I get a message use lockpick, crowbar or key to open.
2. I have combat knife but can't skin animals.
3. Characters get hungry fast...that is not realistic.
4. Game starts in windowed mode - fixed it by clicking "default" and starting the game again.
5. I have no avatar for main character
6. Some of pop-up mesagges on the middle of the screen apear as something like this:

Hi ArShin, I just found the pop-up messages bug and solved it in my working version. I made errors when translating the game, means I ****** up some pop-up messages a bit. They were even intented to be overhead messages...

10. I can't take anything from cold box for free...i have to put something in it to be able to take something.

Both characters are starving and because i can't make food ill have to set this mod on pause and wait for next version.

1 longer play with Kadi, an again one play with old man and kid (still playing)
Found a lot of bugs but i will post them when i see that this topic is active and get some response from the author..

GOD thanks for your detailed comments!! For sure your bug screenshots and gameplay experiences will come in handy when time for real testing and debugging will come for me. For now, I mostly debugged spawning points and item descriptions, but there is still a lot to do. I didn't test the game for hours and hours as many players did, and it is good to know that the game invite to long playing time...

You'll love the next version as all starting characters have a specific game location after start, you can meet them later, most of the time as recruits, sometime as slave or bad guys.

Crowbar : Crowbar is simply a good and easy to find lockpick tool that require strenght (5 I think). You can't use it as a weapon, but I found it would be more useful as a lockpick tool than a simple weapon. You'll notice when equiping it that it increase your lockpick skill.

Combat knife : You knife is probably broken. It is really hard to make sure all knives and other items work, as Tactics tend to erase items tagname (!@#@#%$?!), for example if they are put on the ground instead of on a shelf. I revised maps several times each already to add missing tagnames, so will come a time when all items will work nicely.

Hungry fast : As I use radiation to create hunger, and in fact the minimum possible amount of radiation, I can't slow down the process... It is compensated, I think, by the fact that you can travel all accros the worldmap (for weeks or months) without never getting more hungry that you were when you began traveling. As you mention it, I may remove hunger from all inhabited places, meaning the NPC characters automatically give you food. It will be less of a burden to feed your characters then. I suggest you don't eat as soon as you are hungry, but wait before you leave the map or before a fight.

Windowed mode : I always use this option for creating the game, as I have multiple windows opened. This is the reason why it starts this way. If you modify the resolution in-game, it will switch back to full screen no prob. The final version, of course, will start in full screen.

No avatar : Yeah I know this bug and already solved it in my current working version. I wanted to give player a great choice of character "skins" to chose from (using different races like bos, ghoul, tribal, raider, etc.), but it resulted in this bug. To put it in simple words, game programing include a list of female and male avatars only if the main character is human, a list of unisex avatars only if the main character is a ghoul or mutant, and no avatar at all if the character is a raider or another race. So! I had at the end to make all starting characters be either human, ghoul or mutant to solve this. Less diversity, but less bugs!

<img>xxxxxxx<img> : There might be a missing image somewhere...

Can't find sleeping bag : If you can skin a big animal (like cow or deer), its skin is considered a sleeping bag. Also, I worked on a "craft" feature usable mostly in random maps that give you most of the important items (sleeping bag, knive, spear, slingshot, gun...) if you have enough repair and search skill...

Double-click on wood crashes the game : Moving a thing that does not exist in a map always crashes the game. I probably forgot to put the fireplace in that specific map you were in... If you can tell me where it was, I'll solve this easily.

Skinning doesn't work : If skinning doesn't work, that probably means you don't have a knife. You don't see any message telling you you don't have a knive? Don't worry about AG and PER, it is just temporary, meaning you are occupied with a task that require your attention.

I can't take anything from cold box for free : This is a big problem that I may never be able to solve. To work with the cooler, I hacked Tactics "Quartermaster", so the cooler screen is in fact not a container, but a trader... I solve this by having two types of food items, some with a price and some at 0$. Unfortunately, you can only take back 0$ items from the cooler... So I know this is a bit stupid and counterintuitive, but I do not recommand that you store your food in the cooler, you'll have problem taking it back. If you have any suggestion regarding this, I'm all ears. As it is a mod with many experimental features, sometimes I just can't do totally clean features in the game...

Hi there. Yep. Just open Game folder, Right-click on one of the two shortcuts there and modify the path indicated to match the real path of the game on your hard drive, or put Game folder in C:/TheSum and use the shortcuts. I'm sorry for that. I spent some hours recently on new .exe that are not detected as virusses, and I think they work. I'll put them in the addons section so you can download them if you prefer. Enjoy the mod!

Hi there! In fact, there will always be french AND english in all versions for artistic reasons. As a concept, I want the game to always be bilingual, simply for it to be more immersive that way. No worries, It will not be a problem to access content as I will add in the next version english speakers in all communities (you will simply need to find them in the lot), and all special/unique characters including all (100) side quests will be in english.

Unfortunately, you need to wait until the next (1.5) release at the end of the summer. At this time, all town will have at least 2-6 english speakers, so you will be able to catch anything in the game as normal. There will also be hell a lot of quests to do.

Main mission is to find a place to live, ending the game by deciding to stop travel all together and install. This is an experimental ending, as you can actually "decide" when the game ends. The interesting part in this is that the more you play, the more precise and developped your end game text is. After weeks of play, it could actually get really long.

In the next 1.5 version, it could actually get really dangerous if you decide to stop the game early. The chances of you to die if you only played for some minutes will be very high.

There is a bug with some special missions that I decided to remove (I really had too much missions), but somewhat was unsuccessful to remove them on the Worldmap in this version. To quickly get rid of the bug, Duplicate one of the special maps (.mis file) in the core/missions/special folder and rename it "tente8.mis". Bug solved!

Ok right very sorry for this, this may be many things. Can you be more specific on where this is occuring? If I can isolate the specific mission where it is occuring, I can send you a new version of it. I think it simply missing a spawning point.
