The Trapdoor is a portrait of Jonathan Burke, a lonely servitor to an unseen and diabolical master. As isolation, incarceration, and debasement inevitably erode what's left of his sanity, his repressed memories begin to surface and the insidious menace of the trapdoor grows in his mind.
Now re-released in 2024, for ATDD 1.5!
Ten years later, there's a new version of The Trapdoor!
This new version (3.1, "Reopened") is specially rebuilt for ATDD version 1.5, and may not be as you remember.
Original key features:
New and redesigned for "Reopened":
The easiest way to get and play this new version is on Steam Workshop... but if you wanted to read that you wouldn't be here! :P So, there's a version here on ModDB, but you need to make sure you have Amnessia: The Dark Descent version 1.5, or it will not work. If you're ready, you can grab it here.
Since a recent update to the Steam version of Amnesia, Steam users need to launch CS mods differently. If you're having difficulties, here's the easiest...
Sadly The Trapdoor didn't make it into the Top 100, but if you're still interested, here are five reasons why The Trapdoor is different.
Version 2.0, the irrevocably final version, is out now. Complete with 3 re-play modes and all major bugs fixed.
Version 1.3 (probably final update; tweaks, minor fixes and 3 new gameplay modes) will be available on the downloads tab soon. In the meantime you can...
Two small fixes building on version 3.1. For more info, see the notes for 3.1.

This older version is included for legacy only (it's also a smaller download). Version 2.0 is probably the one you want.
There is still a bug.... if you get killed again your stuck in the paino room i have the new version so ye ...
Ok, I will look into this.
In the meantime, the way to avoid this is to use the plinths: the place you're supposed to respawn is the last plinth you put Boney on. When you first enter a map, pick up Boney and then put him down again on any plinth (including the one beside the level-door) and it should ensure that you respawn there, as long as you have version 1.1.
Hi,
I need a little hint. I've no idea how to "end this nightmare" as mentioned in the memento (I've already found the dining room). Another question: in the library there are some moveable books, are useful for something? I do not understand the note found in this hall.
Thanks in advance ^_^
You are, indeed, missing something in the library - but you're very close. The note in the library is just a bit of history about the castle... but it *is* relevant. First, take a close look at the shelves. Notice anything? Second, think back to the flashback/cutscene. Burke told his friend Dr Bonnington something about a hidden chamber and the secret to opening it. If you can't remember what he said, check your notes. I can't be more specific than that, because the solution to this puzzle is actually randomly generated each play-through. Once you've gotten over this hurdle, you'll be ready to "end the nightmare" one way or another.
Yes the note has dates that correspond to the numbers on the shelves, but you can only put in so many combinations. And even then, nothing happens. That's my interpretation. And there is no cutscene with a Dr. Bonnington. I went all over that cursed basement and I don't remember any such cutscene being initiated.
When you have feed the Thing 4 times downstairs and once upstairs and found all the notes (12 in total) you should get a flashback/cutscene - the one that ends with everything smashing and flying around. Did that not happen?
If something has gone wrong, the fixed save included in the download will put you just before the flashback.
Ok, tried also the "EndOrb" final.
I think the game is finished.
There're no end credits?
I think it's better to just write "the end", otherwise it is not clear if it's finisced or not.
Oh yeah, solved, very very cool cut-scene!
But I think i've found a little bug (?).
I'm now in my room, and there's a note on the wooden door that's is blank. There's a voice acting about Elisabeth, and after this, the screen remain dark and nothing happens.
Hmmmmm... It's supposed to say "The End" for both endings.
Wait a minute ... do you have death hints turned off? I completely forgot you could turn them off, lol. The "the end" text is in the form of a death hint. Doh!
Oh yeah! I've turned off the death hints eheh.
Now I understand why! ;-)
