November 15, 2000 -- Shmoo is Born!
It was a still day - a little more hot than usual - and there were some children running around next door in bathers, brandishing water pistols and playing 'Cops and Robbers.' There was nothing out of the ordinary to suggest that strange and wonderful things would be happening that night.

The character on the screen of the 14" monitor was red and blue with yellow eyes -- just another attempt at a decent flower-monster for the game 'Mutant in the Greenhouse.' Luke never really been any good at drawing (on computers or elsewhere), and today was no exception. The creature in the middle of the screen no more resembled a mutant flower than a hairy spider. He sighed. This was never going to work. He needed something better for drawing. Much better. Windows Paint just did not cut it. Problem was, He didn't have anything decent made specifically for drawing. Unless....

15 minutes later and that dusty Flash CD was in the drive and he had the most confusing animation program ever on-screen. He frowned. Flash makes world-class presentations, it must be better than this . It took him at least half an hour, but in the end he finally decided he would have to shift his pride for a night, and do something he had never done before: he had to read the manual.

Anyway, long story short, WOW! Who knew a book could help him so much with making a mutant flower monster? It was tricky getting used to the Flash-style of drawing but he managed - and the outcome - lets just say it was 'interesting.' It wasn't a mutant flower monster, that is for sure. But what was it? It was a... it was a kind of weird... strange... something. He didn't know what it was but he liked it. It had style, potential. It was cool. It was funny. It was Shmoo.

July 31, 2002 -- In the wild
Early in the winter of 2002, Luke was on the computer when he probably shouldn't have been. A lightning storm raged outside and the huge bolts of electricity were falling dangerously close to his house. Nevertheless, being the stubborn person he is, He proceeded to begin printing a picture of the Shmoo in 'Ultra-Realistic 3D' mode. But to his horror, no sooner had he clicked 'Print' than a massive bolt of lightning hit his house, and just as the information on Shmoo was transferred to the printer, the lightning destroyed it more effectively than a sledgehammer. He could see faintly through the smoke the Shmoo shake itself clean of the broken plastic, and leave the house through the back door, fast as a speeding dragonfly.
