I'd switch the elevator out for the one seen in Anomalous Materials rather than the generic one, that way the player can see all of the chaos going on while they're stuck inside of it.
I've changed the elevator around! There is a viewing space in the back of it just like the one in Blue Shift! Don't worry! :)
