Dawn of the Tiberium Age (DTA) is a stand-alone mod that combines Tiberian Dawn (C&C 95) and Red Alert. While classic mode gets as close to the original game-play and balance as possible, Enhanced mode provides improved game balance and a lot of fun new stuff. DTA features many customization options for Skirmish and multiplayer (where you can play as GDI, Nod, Allies and Soviet on over 200 maps), challenging original singleplayer missions, as well as co-op missions. Since this is a stand-alone mod, you don't require anything but the mod itself to be able to play: the original game is not required.
Starting with the next update, you'll be able to play individual missions of campaigns from the client. New campaign missions will unlock as you progress. If you've played the C&C Remasters, this functions similarly to the campaign menu there.
The client also keeps track of the highest difficulty level that you've completed a mission on.
"What about campaign mission that rely on actions performed in the previous missions?" Well, for those missions you'll also be able to configure the actions that you've performed previously, called preconditions. These will also have to be unlocked; if you haven't played through The Toxic Diversion mission 2 so that you saved the civlians, you won't be able to set "Civilians Saved" to "Yes" when launching mission 3 of the campaign.
-------------------------
Note: due to technical limitations, in the next version you will only be able to load saves from the currently played session from the in-game menu. That means that if you play one mission and then launch another mission, the first mission's saved games will not be accessible in-game. All saved games are still loadable from the client, however.
At first I thought, what a bummer, but then:
"What about campaign mission that rely on actions performed in the previous missions?" Well, for those missions you'll also be able to configure the actions that you've performed previously, called preconditions.
That's pretty cool. Can't wait for it.
I supposed that to set certain variables the other way around we need to play the previous mission again right?
Correct, in most cases you'll have to replay the previous mission to unlock the other option. There are some exceptions though; for example, you also unlock the "No" option for "Chem Lab Destroyed" even if you destroy it during the mission, as the rest of the mission plays identically regardless of your choice and we try to avoid forcing players to grind the same missions all over again.
However, to unlock the four different endings, you'll have to beat TTD#3 in four different ways. If someone feels it gets too tedious, they can play it once on their preferred difficulty and turn down to Easy mode for the re-plays.
Finally someone introduced this concept in C&C.
I mean its exactly what C&C remastered did. Why would you not want this?
Will the original campaigns from C&C ever be included in a update?
We haven't ruled it out, but are not actively working on them either. Most of our mappers, myself included, find it more interesting to work on new, unique missions instead.
I see. Well I hope you decide to do it! I really like the original campaigns and I think a lot of new players would be motivated to try the mod out if they knew it included the original campaigns.
Rampastring You could always remaster the original Missions with the new possibilities Tib sun and your mod provides. In some missions we even saw missile corvettes in the victory videos but other than that I agree something newer is better of course. Not to mention that videos won't play any role in MP and thus making it of lesser importance.
The videos aren't an issue, we already have them in TS' format. And yeah, if we remake the campaign, we'll be remastering it with better maps, TS engine possibilities like smarter AI and better terrain, better balance and probably even Enhanced mode additions. Simply replicating the TD experience wouldn't be worth it.
Will this feature be coming to the TS client generally?
Eventually, yes.
