Dawn of the Tiberium Age (DTA) is a stand-alone mod that combines Tiberian Dawn (C&C 95) and Red Alert. While classic mode gets as close to the original game-play and balance as possible, Enhanced mode provides improved game balance and a lot of fun new stuff. DTA features many customization options for Skirmish and multiplayer (where you can play as GDI, Nod, Allies and Soviet on over 200 maps), challenging original singleplayer missions, as well as co-op missions. Since this is a stand-alone mod, you don't require anything but the mod itself to be able to play: the original game is not required.

Grenades for everyone

So what's their range compared to a Grenadier?

Significantly higher (37.5% in our current development build).

Compared to Grenadiers, their grenades also deal more damage to everything except for infantry (roughly 40% more against buildings and lightly armored units and ships, and almost 3x more against heavy armor), and fire slightly faster.

To prevent them from making Grenadiers useless in the late-game, Grenadiers are still slightly faster and of course cost far less. The Grenade Launchers not having bonus damage against infantry also keeps regular Grenadiers more cost-effective for an anti-infantry role to some degree.

Awsome.
Now if either Soviets or Allies had deployable Mortar Infantry, it would be glorious.

Soviets already are swimming in high-firepower assault infantry - they have grenadiers for T1 rifleman support, very powerful if volatile antipersonnel Flamethrowers at T2, as well as tough and versatile Shock Troopers at T3
Mortars don't exactly fit Allies since they have mostly extremely specialized support infantry, plus Allies got artillery already, but they could fit Allies in the way they help other branches of the military indirectly and with APCs could be much more mobile alternative for artillery.

Maybe, but because Allies have Artillery, Mortars would thematically fit Soviets better.

Mortar Infantry would be cool to get, no matter who gets it, though.

Mortars would thematically fit both the Allies and Soviets quite well IMO (whether they're needed is another discussion, but they're fitting at least).
The Allies would have the 8cm Granatwerfer 34 or GrW 42, while the Soviets would have the 82-BM-37 or 82-PM-41.
I'd imagine the Mortarman would be significantly slower, more expensive and more inaccurate than Grenadiers, in exchange for significantly longer range and better damage.

Mortars would thematically fit ANY faction for that matter, since it's one of the most basic artillery weapons since Stokes Mortar became a thing in WW1 and spread all over Europe in interwar period.
But then, it would also be an utter balancing nightmare.

This new GDI granatwerfer (pun intended) is IMO close enough anyway, it has really decent range and fulfills the warfactory-independent fire support role that potential mortar infantry could fill.

Looks and sounds very good. But see if you can find a build icon for them that syncs in line with the remaining build pictures so probably something hand drawn and not showing a real life soldier.

They "build pictures" are called cameos btw. Anyway, they're pictures of real people in CNC and RA. I think what is throwing you off is the Grenade Launcher Trooper's background is also the real background for the picture and not a super imposed background.

Do they still blow up upon death?

Most likely yes, because that's how grenadiers in C&C work. Exploding on death also makes them less spammable, making it better to use them in small groups or mixed with other units. Medium tanks and these go together pretty well, for example.

Description

A new Tech Center tier infantry for the Global Defense Initiative.

These special forces units are lightly armored, but they are fast and equipped with grenade launchers that deal high damage against all kinds of targets. This makes them effective in small groups either by themselves or as additional firepower for tank groups. Their combination of speed and damage also allows them to kite slower enemies when managed well.
