The Core is a total conversion single-player mod for Half-Life. Survive the disaster as Maurice Andrews, a low level engineer stationed in Black Mesa during the events of the resonance cascade. Seemingly trapped, Andrews must fight his way to the surface to survive.

This is so awesome!
The lighting is really good.
With the machine to the right (Teleportation device), how did You make the curvy things so perfectly curved? Im pretty sure HL is incabable of doing that (Without mods ofc)

because (most) of our computers aren't from 1998
Your comment doesn't make sense: no matter how recent the computers are, you still can't make certain shapes with the Goldsource engine...
I wonder why both of you thinks that this is not possible. It's not about "Goldsource", it's about the editor and how it compiles the bsp.
And yes, it's possible with VHLT v34 and the "-smooth" and "-smooth2" parameters on hlrad.exe.
Also, it's kinda weird that you don't believe it's possible when you have an actual screenshot showing you it is...
You miss the point, I'm only saying some shapes can't be compiled (although it depends on editors and compilers) and that anyway it doesn't depend on the age of your computer (well, except if you plan to make a complex shape with 3000 wpolys, that is).
Now there are reasons to believe this shape is not possible in the Goldsource engine. I'm sure Archie is posting FAKE screenshots to try to seduce me with his mapping skills.
I would gladly show you that it's possible, if you want.
I can also record it and upload it on Youtube. Just tell me what shape you want me to reproduce on this screenshot and I'll make it.
They're not even particularly high-poly :3

I think there has been some misunderstanding. I said some shapes in general (not in this screenshoot) can't be done in the Goldsource engine, not that this screenshot contains impossible shapes. That wouldn't make sense indeed.
You clearly said: "I'm sure Archie is posting FAKE screenshots".
Well then, tell me where are these fake screenshots please, I'm really curious.
You don't get jokes, do you?
After all these posts where you say that it's not possible, I think it's legit to think that what you've just said is not a joke.
But anyway, can you please tell me which are the shapes you consider "not possible"? I'm really curious.
Sites.google.com there is tutorial how to use -smooth value to make cylinders, even low poly, looks perfectly smooth in a game.
This look's gergous!
I still can't grasp that is is GoldSRC. Amazing!
As already said on Twhl. Epic work Archie.. :)
It's been said already but damn.. that lighting though.
GoldSrc has never looked better. Great work.
Fine work, find work.
Looks really good for GoldSource.
Looking pretty good, i'm not so sure about the lights though: they look a bit out of place in a science lab. With a ceiling like that a system lighting setup would make more sense to me, or longer TLs. Since the windows are so big and evidently for the purpose of observation, placing some benches in front of the windows, or on the left side of the hallway, would add another level of detail. Perhaps add some sills for people to put their coffees on.

Utterly brilliant!
How could you make this with GoldSrc Engine?
It's unbelievable.
Pushing the limits of GoldSrc here, looks almost like release day Half-Life 2
Wooo! Oddly placed tiles never looked so good..
Oddly Placed Tile Simulator 2009 looked better imo
Yep, looking awesome.
Wow, this area sure is breath-taking! Congrats mates, superb work once again! The lighting is simply beautiful, almost real-life like (especially the lit area of the corridor on the left).
This is "The Core", redefining GoldSrc ;) . Can't wait for the release...
This looks amazing
Looks like i'm going to go on a date with that many polygons!
Just... Just put a noodle cup in the corner of one of those pillars!!! DO IT.
