The Core is a total conversion single-player mod for Half-Life. Survive the disaster as Maurice Andrews, a low level engineer stationed in Black Mesa during the events of the resonance cascade. Seemingly trapped, Andrews must fight his way to the surface to survive.

It will have taken up half of your life (snort) by then. Please don't let that happen for everyone's sake, especially your own :^)

Such a vast improvement, I couldn't imagine The Core would have had such a lasting appeal if it was released in 2009 in that state. You are truly making The Core it's own beast with such a keen eye for details!

Looks great, Urbs! If you manage to get it done anytime before Half-Life 3 comes out or before I die, that would be great.

Well, I think this mod has the most good looking maps (about quality) I've ever seen for GoldSrc!
I hope once finalized, it will be available on Steam too, then why not a multiplayer (deathmatch) part as complement... Someday, where we could play with friends on an high quality textured mod under GoldSrc!

It won't be available to download via Steam sadly. However, there are already Half-Life Deathmatch maps available using The Core's textures and layouts.

If this mod came out in this year, it would be the only reason why i will reinstall HL 1.

There are some free mods using GoldSrc engine available on Steam, multiplayer or not, like Headcrab Frenzy, Base Defense, etc., then probably some other being single player, I don't remember them right now.
Some of them are far to be as "special" as yours, but still they are on Steam.
I don't know what is the process for game authors to request for such addition, but I'm guessing you have to ask Steam, then a petition via vote should be launched, then according to the results you might see the game among the "official listing".
Your game sounds like a piece of art with GoldSrc, and having it on Steam will help to get it known & played more, at time of release, of course.
Even if you know most of the addicts of GoldSrc games mods stick around moddb websites & others, it's still welcomed to have it elsewhere, in order to inform more people. After all of this hard work, it's pleasant when it pays off more (see it being used/played & liked more!), that a quality work deserves.

PS: What Half-Life Deathmatch maps are you talking about? I remember some quality maps I'm using on my servers with smooth textures (like psychedelic_final), but maybe you are talking about upcoming maps you've made and not released yet (including in your mod), or are you talking about current existing ones outside your mod, somewhere on the web?

By the way, you can count on me to promote your mod at its release.
Regards.

Description

So I was just minding my business today, chatting with a friend and had a very sudden and very depressing realisation. The Core has now been in development for exactly 10 years. I uploaded the first screenshots to ModDB on August 26th, 2008...

What started out as a passing thought of "I really should release a mod or something" has turned into a project that has so far taken LITERALLY a third of my life...

I've learned so much and improved as a level designer in that time and could not have done it without one of my best friends who joined the project a couple of years in and has kept me focused... most of the time, so thanks for that, Archie.

So... when is it finally going to be released?

NO FRIGGIN' IDEA!
