This is a total conversion mode I made one year ago. For
some reason I've never put it here on ModDB. Now, I finally translated
it to English, made a lot of changes and.. here it is.

The story
is mysterious, psychological, dark and follows the good ending of
Amnesia: The Dark Descent. Something happened after Daniel escaped. He
was writing everything to his diary so now you as his son have the
opportunity to read the diary years after his unexplained death.

This is my third custom story (total conversion). I'm sorry for any grammar mistakes. English is not my first language.
Windows and Linux are supported. Mac lanch script is included as a separate download patch in beta (I have no machine to test it on).
The mode is fully isolated and doesn't change anything in the original game.

1/ Copy the folder 'affect' to '...Amnesia/custom_stories' folder

HOW TO START IT - using the script files

1/ On Linux, start the game using the 'affect_linux" file. If you have an Optimus laptop with Prime Render Offload (hybrid graphics) you can use the 'affect_linux-prime_render_offload.sh' instead and the game will start on dedicated graphics card using the 'prime-run' command. Or use the Steam way of launching total conversions.

2/ On Windows, start the game using the 'affect_windows.bat' file or use the Steam way of launching total conversions.

3) On Mac OSX, start the game using the "affect_maxosx.command" or use the Steam way of launching total conversions.

HOW TO START IT - using Steam
If you have the game on Steam, you can start it directly.
Right click on 'Amnesia: The Dark Descent" in you Steam library. Select 'PROPERTIES' and 'SET LAUNCH OPTIONS'.
Set the launch options to 'custom_stories/affect/config/main_init.cfg' - without quotation marks, of course.

The lantern model is made by Mofo (http://www.frictionalgames.com/forum/thread-7765.html)
The intro song (versions 1.10 to 1.10) is made by SKmeT262 (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCYob1N0Vpd-c0UsI-REGPVg)
The intro song (version 1.10) 'No monumentum' is made by Our-Music-Box.com (Creative Commons, allowed to be used in games, videos etc. as long as credit is given).

Russian translator: Alexei Panov

In case of any issues, please provide additional info like where did you put the "affect" folder, what's your game version (Steam/GOG etc.) and what's your operating system. Thank you. This will ensure I'll be able to do my best to help.

All maps are designed for gamma 1.0.
I use some experimental elements like telling the story using "animations" or handwritten notes for making better atmosphere.

I release this mod for free to be played and shared. This is only applied to my own work. The mod contains or may contain additional content (Amnesia entities/sounds/models/music from other authors) that doesn't belong to me and I hold no rights on it.
Howewer, I don't mind if you redistribute the mod, translate it, modify it etc. as long as you keep the name of the original authors and contributors.
If you only want to redistribute it, please keep the original name and content unchanged.
If you decide to fork it and release a modified version, please change the name of the project but keep a mention of the original authors, translators etc.

"I don't plan to ever touch this mod ever again, this is the definitive release."

For the future, don't include vanilla assets in your downloads.
If you have other issues with setting up an FC, here's a decent-ish article: Wiki.frictionalgames.com

You can also put languages into a single download and let the player pick them from the menu like in the base version.

PS. Oh and you don't need to stack uploads, you can just update the file of your main upload and that way have a single one.

I love it how you give solid advice and they proceed to be an *** about it, even though the mod is quite garbage anyways and needs a lot of improvement to reach the quality of something that requires a full conversion.

headlesscyborg, I downloaded this mod randomly and I can say with much confidence it is the most slow-paced, crummy adaptation of the Amnesia storyline I've ever even attempted to sit through; and adding on to that the fact that It's a full conversion mod and not a normal custom story baffles me. People voting 8/10 and 9/10 makes me think they've never played any other custom mod on Amnesia.

I literally do not care. Fix your bad transitions and plot hole filled story before you try and act all high and mighty in the comment section when people try and give you advice on how to fix your unnecessarily bad download.

- People are free to choose whether they'll make a normal CS or a conversion, there's no such thing as "quality of something that requires a full conversion"

- I had a problem with the way he said that, not the advice itself. Like "I'm a random person on the internet, I'll tell you what to do and you'll listen..." is what I would call "the *** and mighty behaviour", not my polite reply.

That's the only thing I can respond to, the rest is a personal opinion of yours that would better work as a review than a comment.

The mod is working. How about reading INSTRUCTION.txt instead of posting a comment about it? You would find out that you need to put the folder inside the custom_story :)

Hi. Where did you put the affect folder and where are you launching the "affect_windows" file from?

EDIT: Tested it and works fine here. The executable file has to be 2 directories above which should be achieved by simply putting the "affect" folder to "custom_stories". This is always an issue with total conversions. If this was done correctly and the executable file is "Amnesia.exe" (may be different in case of old game versions but it wouldn't work on anything less than 1.3 anyway) there shouldn't be anything preventing it from running.
