Just wanted to express myself in a "creative" way.
Radios will connect to a specified frequency, and you will stay connected until you decide to shut it off.
Also, when you lock onto a frequency for the first time, you can save it as a channel for faster "draw", so only one number (instead of up to 6) will be required to insert.
The radio will also have a limited range.
For boosting its range up you may switch your hardware to a more powerful one or deploy a radio beacon (in a suitable and convenient location!) that sends your signal outside the Zone, saving some space in your rucksack.
