I wish I was such a good model artist as you.

I’ve found that it’s mostly a matter of study, practice and perseverance. Watching great modelers like Tor Frick work can be very useful to improve further if you’re already at a certain level. Looking at what they do and how they do it, what tools/processes they use and the like. There’re just so many free tutorials out there nowadays it’s become possible to learn stuff like this online. Wasn’t the same 10-15 years ago, much harder to get going. Plus you’ve got services like Pluralsight where you can learn the basics to just about anything game related including coding, for the price of two movie tickets per month.

Description

This video shows a part of our workflow process and the tools that we use to transfer geometry details to texture details. They were designed and built for SGI. You can also take a closer look at the Traveller ship both in MODO (model with all the details) and in Substance Painter (early game model for testing).
