Id like red eyebrows and red hair, as well as just all round color selection to compensate for the lack of color selection upscaling the character models in some places which just forces black. Even my workaround method doesnt work. Its black or FU basically without a programmer. Will do other hairstyles coloration as well in the future, and focus will be on human playable characters only.

Speed fixes needed for this game: Fullscreen bug induces stuttering. Forcing borderless solution. It wasnt straightforward getting it working. UI and general game latency fix came from thread scheduler control.

So I have some bad news. The game will only compile without crashing using fullscreen mode but the game also stutters in fullscreen mod no matter how powerful your machine is due to a bug. But the stutter fix breaks level compiles. This isnt the end of the world its just incredibly annoying because ill be forced to turn this into a tech demo with a mission tree so you can still play it compiling level by level with it crashing into a progression tree of saves with all possible combinations of characters and choices (+ photos) which is going to be a complicated pain in the ***. Wouldnt it be nice if we could have nice things.

Now it will load with all the upscaled models but even a little bit extra and it crashes with speed mode. To me this is unacceptable trash so tech demo it is until a programmer fixes whatever fuckery is getting in the way this time.

Maybe I can make a 4:3 rez work at crazy numbers so its just supersampling? I doubt it. Very disappointed honestly. Anger is probably a more appropriate word. Its bug this bug that and its unrealistic to expect a solution to come out of nowhere. OpenJK project is probably not going to do anything interesting with it really. The trouble is manpower parallelism. We have too many people running around doing their own thing.

Fullscreen: Game works but stutters
Window mode: No stutter but next level compile crashes
Swap option in config: Next level compile crashes

Basically to play the game with acceptable performance and enhancements you are going to have to beat the level, let it crash, then load the next save in the progression with the force power you want and pew pew device. This could be like a thousand combinations for me to figure out so im going to do what I think is reasonable.

I hate working on something this hard and it just being this overachieving level of quality on one hand and extremely duck taped together and ghetto on the other. Its just stupid. Someone super needs to do something with the source code so we can actually upgrade this game to run and look better. Not sort of half try which is the impression after about 20 years. Sorry if that sounds harsh but we get lots of teases like improved versions, and RT thats not my dinky little screenspace method, but it turns out the first one isnt really an improvement if it just basically freezes trying to run this mod. And the other... I have my doubts its going to be complete. The other game is very large. Its not like remaking Deus Ex in a more modern Unreal Engine or anything, but its still a insane amount of work realistically for one person to actually achieve.

This is the reason we need to clone John Carmack. So we can unleash his lab offspring unto the dire needs of the forbidden upgrades.

"16. to play Quake3 engine based games with texture compression, add these lines
seta r_ext_compress_textures "1"
seta r_ext_compressed_textures "1"
seta r_ext_texture_compression_s3tc "1"
seta r_ext_s3tc "1"
and enable legacy texture compression (fxt1 compression for voodoo4/5) in driver tool. most games with the Q3 engine will use realtime (on-the-fly) compression."

It looks like there is a similarly named config option that uses the word preferred, implying higher quality. So in theory I just enhanced the quality even more by using a supposedly higher quality of texture compression of a similar kind.

There is some possibility this stuttering was induced and a OS reinstall will fix it. However I will not be testing for this until the mod is essentially complete.

Tried toggle using hotkeys from fullscreen to window and it literally has to reload the entire level. Lmao. Thats out.

Fast sync just leads to a screen tearing fest thats more awful than I thought possible.

There is some chance people with G Sync might evade this sort of Satanic ritual of hatred. I can in fact check that later as I have a G sync monitor. It appears to be tied to vsync period. Which is a thing. Might even just be an Nvidia driver interacting with the game thing. Only way to know is more data more time. I might find a better workaround. Vsync off, G sync hardware only mode probably is the solution for fullscreen no stuttering. ****** OpenGL bug? Game? Who knows.

I suspect very strongly the cause of this performance degradation was playing around with the open source versions of this game or the wrappers. And that if you avoid these like most people would, it would run fine. Will reinstall OS at very end and check before launch. This is pretty common in retro modding. Something in the registry im guessing changes, and the only time valid way to deal with the problem if system restore and a bit of tinkering doesnt work is a fresh slate. Thats kind of just how it is. Its why I dont bother setting up my OS in fancy ways anymore because I know this can happen at anytime.

Polishing up the first third of the game right now. About to move on to the middle. Factory level has the most trash skybox so far.
