Red Six: I got a problem here. My converter's running wild.

Biggs: Eject!

Red Six: I can hold it. Gimme more room to run.

Biggs: You're too low. Pull up!

Red Six: No, I'm all right...

[death scream]

Red Six: [Porkins' fighter explodes from a turbolaser crossfire]

maybe the empire will get a new tier8 titan that can only be destroyed with upgraded xwings ?

Uh, A-Wings don't have torpedoes, they use concussion missiles.

Maybe those could work against strike craft and other ships, too? It would certainly fit the A-wing's role as an interceptor to give it a second universal attack.

Its a limitation I think... The Alliance only has proton torpedoes as the guided munitions as far as the upgrade tree is concerned.

Most commonly yes, but they have been shown in plenty of games to be able to use other weapons, such as in the X-wing series for example. For gameplay purposes we gave all warhead firing Imperial units concussion missiles and Alliance units Proton Torpedoes, so that they'd only need one type of research for such units.

Also works out better for the A-wings here since Proton Torpedoes have a passive 10% to bypass shields.

As an overall idea yes x-wings should outclass most imperial strike craft , my concern is Thrawns pet project the defender which if i am not mistken should outperform everything , x-wings included
It is avaible only for the remnant faction and its a prety late tier research but it should be the top dog
Thats just my oppinion anyways, as always great work

TIE Defenders already have missiles as well as ion cannons, so it certainly still outclasses them in firepower at least. However Defenders are anatimatter expensive and limited to very few units to carry them. X-wings are comparatively cheap and widely available, so its not difficult to make this a huge boost to the Rebels without messing up the relative balance of power between fighters.

Description

One of the big design problems with the Rebel Alliance is that while they are supposed to have the best fighters in the game, they do not really achieve this until late game with their Starfighter Doctrine research. In an attempt to adjust that and give the Rebels some more offense, a new research has been added that will give X-wing and A-wing Starfighters access to their Proton Torpedoes. As a tier 4 tech, this should give Rebel fighter squadrons a noticeable damage bonus that will give them the edge against both other starfighters and larger vessels.
