Expanding Fronts aims to not only add a massive roster of new units to the game, but to allow players to utilize these units in a standard Skirmish environment. To allow for this, each of the 8 civilizations has been divided into numerous Sub-Factions that carry a unique roster of units and techs. Featured today is an overview of the Galactic Republic's Sub-Faction lineup.
The Grand Army of the Republic's primary forces are made up of millions of loyal clone troopers. These troopers are adaptable to perform a wide array of actions and, with the right composition, can tackle nearly any situation. The Clone Army can make use of specialized troops such as ARC Troopers and Assassins. In addition, the clones can utilize the powerful, redesigned Low Altitude Assault Transport to clear hostile terrain, and quickly drop into battle.
GAR MECHANIZED
While the clone troopers can defeat any obstacle with time, the GAR Mechanized Division is all about smashing through enemy defenses with heavy armor. Close-quarters units like the AT-XT and TX-130 can be combined with the powerful assault capabilities of AT-TEs and Juggernauts to create unstoppable walls of firepower.
REPUBLIC STARFIGHTER CORPS
Tasked with providing aerial support to ground forces, the Republic Starfighter Corps makes use of a wide array of aircraft. Light fighters and interceptors like the Eta-2 Actis and V-19 torrent provide fast and efficient anti-fighter support, while slower-moving, heavy aircraft like the ARC-170 and BTL-B Y-Wing wreak havoc on enemy ground forces.
GAR SUPPORT DIVISION
Serving primary from behind the front lines, the GAR Support Sub-Faction makes use of long-ranged artillery, and powerful anti-aircraft units to assist allies in combat. When necessary, the Support Division can inflict severe damage to enemy forces up close via the use of deadly Clone Commando units.
NEW BATTLEFRONT AND SWGB'S FUTURE
I'm sure that everybody is excited to hear about the announcement of a new Star Wars Battlefront game coming from none other than DICE, creators of the wildly successful Battlefield series. The constant demands of fans over the years have finally paid off, and EA appears to be attempting to turn a new leaf and get back on the good sides of gamers.
Last month we posted an article asking people who were interested in seeing classic LucasArts titles like Galactic Battlegrounds re-released digitally to contact EA and show their support. I'm confident that with a loud enough audience we can convince them to make these classic games available to gamers and Star Wars fans once again. Send your tweets to @EA_DICE @VisceralGames @BioWare and #starwarsnextgen, and help get these titles released.

Actually the sub-factions remind me of World in Conflict where in multiplayer players choose role of infantry, armor, air or support role. Great job!
Cool mod! Glad that people are still playin this old but awesome game! :D
Yes! Clones are my favourite SW characters!
This is looking oustanding!
One question though, are these the only sub-factions that'll be available for the GAR, or will there be more specialized units? And also, if there will be more subs, will there be one focused on infantry or will the "standart" faction fill that role?
There is no standardized faction; you must select one of the four upon reaching Tech Level 3.

If that's the case, then I suppose that all sub-factions will have a specialty and there will be no "jack-of-all-trades" faction?
Correct, which is why it's best to play with a teammate. However, the sub-factions do not lock you out of other unit trees. If you decide to play as an infantry faction, you will still have access to basic tanks, aircraft, and heavy weapons - You may even have a few unique units within those groups. They just won't be able to become as effective as they would have had you specialized in their respective branches.
I know this is a necropost, but how will AI select sub-factions in Standard Games? Can you select the sub-faction for each AI or will they randomly select?
Also, can you use the sub-faction system in the Campaign?
I've looked at a lot of the photos and videos of this mod, and I have to say that I really like the work you guys have done, and I am really looking forward to this!! I just wanted to ask though, Is there an estimate release date?
Not at the moment, sorry. We're working as quickly as we can with what little staff we have.
It's alright thanks! just another question, I saw capital ships: imperial star destroyers, republic attack cruisers, and providence-class destroyers in some photos, and is there going to be a way to play an only space game mode like this in multi-player?
We don't have plans to make anything like that, but I'm sure the numerous map designers in the community will find some use for them.
I am playing this mod now and I don't see the option to choose any of the 4 sub factions when I reach tech level 3 with the republic. Is there a specific game mode when you can do this?
