His hero ability is dying off-screen without any send off or meaningful contribution.
I never got this, Ackbar was actually named as being among the fallen in TLJ. Clearly they gave him a send off, it's just the thing is with that movie they mentioned outright that they couldn't grieve for they were in a war and on the run from the First Order, meaning they had no time to mourn.
Also just be happy he's actually in the mod.
