People that already test it say that performance hit is visible(drop reach even 10fps) this is a bit sad news because it's look like this is the limit of meshes I can put in on each map, so now it's a matter of optimizing it by reducing number of polygons on each grass model and making them to look more natural.
Feel free to download those grass from link in the description to test it by yourself, if you have any suggestion just post it here.

What DDS settings do you save the build_details files with, if one would like to tinker with what you've done here a little? Great work, would love to see the other levels with these as well.

Glad to see that you're still working on the game's vegetation! My number 1 problem with Stalker's grass is that it's too repetitive. There is almost no variety, just a single type of grass covering the entire maps. These screenshots however look pretty nice, there seems to be a wide variety of different grass and even bushes. Stalker really needs some proper vegetation mods. I'll download it and test it out.

Just tested it and I really like it. The only problem is something you already know about: There's 6 to 10FPS drop. With some optimization it should be good though, probably.

Description

For past couple of days Im doing some test with new grass models. Its still far from end, its basically still test of how much more meshes I can put there without hitting performances that much...

Right now Im working just on 6 maps: cordon, garbage, agroprom, bar, rostok and army warhehouse. Just to play with different models.
Also grass texture it self use different format, where there is fewer models but they are bigger and mipmaps have some serious tweaks on them, so changing its resolution is not recommended(every mipmpa layer is modified in different way)

But remember that its not even beta, or alpha stage. it will not break game in any way, you can remove it in any time, its just that you can get some lags using it, and models are not really in their final form so you can encounter some bugs. Recommended setting for that grass is: r__detail_density 0.30 if you dont know what it is and how set in in game its mean that you should not test it :]
