Obviously the screenshots included in this video also display every other gfx that is a part of the MISERY mod visuals and not just the new structure material redesigns separately.

Bumpmaps can only be properly compared when analyzed during the same weather conditions.

Vanilla vs. MISERY 2.0 wooden structures also compared here: Media.moddb.com

Video will be uploaded to Youtube.

Maybe its an punishment for your whining. Just shut up and be a little more patient, every update shows that this mod is close to complete, and latest news imply that we may get it till the end of this month.

Looks great, nice work!

Some of the original colors felt a little too strong ...it is nice to see what you guys have done with them. Very desolate feeling.

No. But you can select each and every texture that you want reverted back to vanilla design and delete the MISERY version of those (like every structure shown here). Just remember that vanilla textures are going to stand out big time in most cases if you delete a handful of texture files here and there

Not bad, though the shiny, kind of wet and slimy, look is still present it would be nice if it could be toned down at least

That's a matter of preference, it's a simple cfg line (r2_gloss_factor) which will tone down the effect. Don't fear, I'll provide a full explanation of every single cfg line with the readme of misery 2, so you can, just like me, edit the game's lightning to your pin-point preferences!

Some examples: (night time in SoC with my lightning)

The Zone... LIVES!

Really like those direct confrontation between old and new. Also the music kicks in, especially the eastern block voice (russian?) which I believe you added. Great work me wants 2.0.

How about such a video about the old and new Emission? Always found it a beautiful event and in Misery even more.

Textures in MISERY have little to no impact on your FPS as most textures are optimized within original proportions. Increasing texture resolutions is not that important if you ask me. So that part does not decrease performance.
But Absolute Nature 3 generates more trees and bushes in all areas and in combination with increased grass draw distance the overall visuals in MISERY does have an impact. On my medium benchmark rig that handles version 1.1 very well I still have acceptable FPS of 40-60 in version 2.0.

The performance decrease generated by all of our newly added stuff is almost balanced out with the optimization that we did on various aspecs.

So if your rig struggles to run version 1.1 expect to see the same thing in version 2.0.
If everything is smooth and well for you in version 1.1 then have no worries.

Well, 1.1 goes well, it only freezes a sec when A-Life does something, so I think I won't have any problems. Thanks for the reply :)

from what i understand from the post: as long as you can run the game with about 40+ frames on whatever settings u had in 1.0/1.1 it shouldnt make an impact on these new textures. hope this helps! tho i kinda agree in a way.. if it gets too much more awesome my computer might cry for help XD "TOO mUCh AwESOmE NOOOOooooo BOOM"

Herr Himmler, I have spotted another transgression against the spelling Reich!

It seems the makers of this vundervah mod have used the incorrect spelling of the phrase " a lot " putting " alot " instead.

We shall grant them a reprieve this time due to their immaculate work, but we shall not be so forgiving next time.

Sieg Spelling!

Although this looks great, the main problem with Misery 1.1 was that the ground pattern was too small and repetitive. You could see from the distance that. Also, everything was too shiny.

I don't think that bricks during rain are shining. And one more thing: the snork sounds were awful in Misery 1.1 really, the vanilla ones were better, but if you come up with different sounds we will appreciate it.. :D Great work!

The snork sounds were amazingly good to me! But I'm also handling the sound aspect and we took care of most of the sounds ;)

Loner, I understand, but in Misery 1.1 the snork sounds like he's yelling/calling at you. After a period of time that gets way to repetitive. Just like, "Come in, don't stand there!" Maybe try to add 2-3 different sounds to the snorks.. I don't know..

I love the Snork sound scheme and not only for that 'yelling at you'-feeling.
But I understand your suggestion and I will do some more variations of their screaming.
In addition we decreased their volume at distance so they are less loud now.
Thanks

Description

Comparison of vanilla vs MISERY 2.0 visuals with a focus on new structure material texture work for MISERY 2.0.

Watch in HD on Youtube: Youtube.com

Screenshots are with most settings maxed (no antiaaliasing).

MISERY now covers almost every texture aspect of the game including ground, rocks, trees, bushes, grass, debris, skies, rain, structures, NPCs, suits and clothes, weapons, effects (like blood), props, vehicles, ambient light, sun flares, items, animals and mutants.

Many textures have not just been redesigned for the sake of detail but also to give the mod a distinctive and conceptualized look and mood. Like NPCs having scars and beards. Wooden structures like crates and tables look rotten, improvised and rough. Some weapons have scratches and dirt on them. This is not appealing to everyone.

Main visual improvement from version 1.0 to 2.0 is found in Absolute Nature 3 and the new structure material designs shown in this video.

Huge credit to Cromm Cruac, author of Absolute Nature 3 and AtmosFear 3, as his standalone mods form the foundation of the MISERY 2.0 visuals.
