This mod aims to be something; there's genuinely a lot of effort, and time that have gone into this project to show those behind it are dedicated to there goal of making it be something. Shame that something is a completely depressing mess of features.

Allow me to explain myself here. MISERY lives up to the name given to it too well, and by that I mean it's unfair in every way, shape, and form. Every possible aspect of the game that could be used to make money in any way is stomped down until you'll be quite literally murder farming the neutral NPCs just to buy a bullet. All of the aspects of the world are so innately hostile that you might as well be on the surface of the sun in a banana hammock and a pink ***** for protection. It is really utterly and entirely suffering to even make it five feet in this mod.

Every gun you find will either be a pile of rust and spit, so inaccurate it would probably be more efficient to just throw the ammo box at your enemy than shoot it, or just feels awful to use in the first place. Couple this with the frankly mental way damages are calculated as compared to you and the enemy; mutants of even mild strength tank rounds like a marine corps meet-up and that's assuming they don't just come with an innate field of death around them should you not have the magic protection to avoid it. Human enemies far ever so slightly better, assuming you can actually score a headshot they can and will die; issue is they can do it from what feels like miles off to you for the sake of "Muh Realism".

Oh, and of course one of the famous core aspects of the series wouldn't escape; the atmosphere of the Zone. Instead of the unique contrast of wilderness, abandoned human spaces, and the alien anomaly zones. You just get a giant mess of grey, brown, brownish grey, and greyish brown; all layered with a lovely film of muddy filters that meaning it becomes hard to read an item based on icon or tell things apart from the patched of brown smudge that passes for foliage. Oh and the background noise they constantly pipe in, don't forget that crock of horse bollocks. I get using background audio here and there but constant static noises, garbled radio, and bugs flying in my ear just gets tedious quickly for no extra immersion factor.

Finally, and most appallingly of all is what they did to the whole utterly unique mechanic of artefacts and their hunting. I can understand making it untenable to just run into a field laddy-da with your johnson hanging out for free money, fair enough. Nope, instead they made anomaly fields basically more dangerous than walking right into the ruins of CNPP with just your skivvies and rolling around in the graphite dust. Thermal fields will kill you in milliseconds and even advanced scientific armor only extends that to seconds, while also breaking if brushed by a passing leaf and costing the entire output of a third world nation to fix, and chemical ones are like taking a bath in pure acid, mixed with even more pure acid, while on bloody fire. Couple all that with the fact you can't even handle the rewards you get anymore without being horrifyingly poisoned, since apparently instead of giving them downsides the mod just makes them so hot they can cook an egg from six lightyears off. So you either have to fork over for heavy, expensive special containers to even have any positive effect should you dare to wear these chunks of pure radioactive hate. Even yet, just transporting them requires a special snowflake box to keep it from turning you inside out just by having it in your backpack. Just to round out the suffering, you have to use a fiddly context menu to activate sodding tongs to put the thing in, or take it back out for sell value should you want to actually keep your box. So it means there's no point wasting time, effort, or your money on hunting them; so they made one of the core mechanics of the entire franchise suck!

For those of you ***** actually read this stupid rant, thank you. This mod isn't worth the time, effort, or headaches to play or download. It's an unfun mess of a package that aims only to harbor some elite "ideal" that if you're having fun with the STALKER franchise than somehow you're doing it wrong. I commend the developers for actually putting so much effort into this, shame it just wasn't on something better like GUNSLINGER.

Survivor horror at it's finest, although slightly flawed. Once all the kinks are ironed out, this will be the definite Stalker: Call Of Pripyat mod.
