I love the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, but the fact that it's based off of such a tragic event has always bothered me.

R.I.P.

That is why S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is so awesome game. It have kept memory of Chernobyl tragic event fresh in peoples mind. Without constant reminder to that tragedy it will be easy forgoten and probably more easy it could happen again.

R.I.P. all fallen that helped cleaning radioactive mess after disaster.
Not only in Chernobyl, but also brave samurais in Fukushima too.

Great respect to all people that gave their lifes so we can still live in more-less cleaner enviroment, even that is not their fault at all for such tragedy.

STALKER was made for a purpose, to remind us that people died helping each other, to remind us that we should fight side by side against all the odds, not each other.

On this day we all should think of what would have happened without these heros.

I remember reading the Shoc manual and there was a story about kids thinking the Americans were bombing the reactor. They couldn't sleep that night cause they were so excited to fight against them.

R.I.P. to those great and brave warriors. I wish I could go and visit the place, to pay my respects.

When I got Stalker:CoP, I watched the intro scene a few times. After searching in google, I realized the Chernobyl Disaster actually happened. From then, I didn't play Stalker, I lived it.
When I reached the Pripyat in game, I felt a strange sadness; Soundtrack and Atmosphere was incredible... and unforgettable. Such unique and sad experience...

Description

Today we bow our heads in honor and memory of the fallen.

On April 26, 1986, reactor number four at the Chernobyl nuclear power facility in what is now Ukraine exploded. The largest civil nuclear disaster in history led to mass evacuations, and long-term health, agricultural, and economic distress. Chernobyl, Pripyat and Poliske has been abandoned, and a 19-mile radius "exclusion zone" established where radiation contamination makes continued habitation dangerous.
