How to get a UPD? Thread - MISERY mod for S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat

So I chose the Black Road start. Now I've played for a few hours and I still cannot access my PDA. It says "You don't have a universal power device (UPD)". So what exactly is a UPD and how do I get it? I feel like I missed something obvious because without the PDA you can't really play the game, so what is it that I missed?

A Universal Power Device is one of the new features in the mod. There's a pic with all the info about it in the images section. You can buy one from Owl or Beard, though go with Beard because Owl's prices are several times higher.

I guess it has a random chance of appearing? I checked those shops several times for a UPD. But maybe I'm just blind. I'll check again.

Yeah, it can be tricky to see at first due to the immense amount of items sold, however keep in mind that it has a bar underneath the icon that shows how much charge it's got left in the battery. That should help you spot it more easily. Also, it looks like a white, diagonal can of energy drink I'd say.
P.S. and it's not random, I've visited both shops several dozen times now, and it's always been there.

I wondered this myself, it's shown as a white stick as far as I can remember. It has green bars below just as any good condition equipment will have. Go to Owl first and locate the UPD, he got bit less items and it will make it easier to spot. Then go down to Beard, locate it and buy it. It cost around 3000 at Beard and around 7000 at Owl's. The bandit sympatising bastard charges too much
