Call of Misery started as an unofficial port of Misery 2 to Call of Chernobyl but has since gone on to add its own features and changes. There are now many addons for CoM itself, most of which are released in Russian. This mod has CoM and some of the popular addons for CoM along with some of the translations for them. Credit will be given in each mod and addon to the creators and translators.

Description

This mod removes the "growling" ambient mutant sounds added by STALKER: Call of Misery which causes the player to think there is a bloodsucker or other type of mutant in the vicinity when there is in fact not.

Taking away one of the most chilling features of Misery? why?

While it is a cool effect and can cause the player to be on edge I personally found it annoying overtime and the sounds overplayed in game. I only removed the sounds of a mutant growling - the other mutant sounds are still in game as I didn't find them bothersome and they did add to the atmosphere. I know some people like the sounds though and I respect your opinion!

Personally I kind of hate it. Eventually you realize that they're completely unrelated to mutants actually present on the map and they go from making me paranoid to making me roll my eyes.

Now, it WOULD be cool if you heard sounds from mutants actually present on the map which would prompt you to avoid that general vicinity if you hear a mutant that you don't want to face... or perhaps initiating a hunt.

This. Fake mutant/gunfire sounds ruin immersion tremendously. They're cheap jump scares, or worse, jump scares with no real effect behind them.

Directional sounds from mutants present on the maps and gunfights in progress are way better.

Definetly agree ... the growling was very annoying to me , always thinking there was a mutant nearby . In my opinion , this growling was too misleading . CoM is already hard as it can be ( harder than Misery , especially when playing as Monolith ) , and doesnt need things like this , even if it would be enhancing atmosphere for some people .

The problem isnt that sounds are misleading, making you think that theres a mutant while theres not.. Its actually a good thing making new players scared and stuff however the real problem with those is that over time you get used to those, rolling eyes hearing it over and over until it seems totally stupid.. Then this mod or self replacing those few files with blank ogg comes as the only intelligent way of dealing with this until you still have your sanity lol

I dislike ambient sounds that imitate something that may be real. It is misleading and is far more eye-rolling than atmosphere setting.

I'd rather have it be real mutants, enemies, etc, that I can choose to either attack, avoid, ambush, whatever.

It's very annoying going after a sound because you think something is there when infact it is nothing more than just a sound with no source. Such events/sounds should be used carefully and sparingly, for instance if the player is under some effect such as sleep deprived or something.

Playing a sound, especially a scary sound, over and over and over just robs it of being scary. It eventually becomes just "a sound" to the player. Just like a bad movie which plays the same loud sound over and over to scare the viewer, after the first few times it's just annoying and not scary or moot setting.

This is great - thanks mate.
I didn't mind it too much in my first Misery playthrough, I could see that perhaps it was a form of paranoid thinking hearing the growls of predatory mutants... but it got old pretty quick aye.

This is a very useful mod, thanks! Those sourceless sounds break the flow tremendously when you realize it's just an effect and there's nothing there.
