Frequently Asked Questions (and frequently given answers)

Table of Content

What is S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Anomaly?

Read the What is STALKER Anomaly post on the forum.

Do I need to install Anomaly on top of Last Day?

No, Anomaly is a stand-alone mod pack that should be installed into a new, empty directory.

How do I install Anomaly?

Read the install instructions on the How to install Anomaly Repack forum post.

How can I improve stability if Anomaly crashes or freezes frequently?

With Anomaly Repack and at least the Anomaly Repack Update 1.0.8 the engine should be quite stable already. But according to feedback from players, switching from DX10 to either DX9 (for lower spec PC) or to DX11 (for higher spec PC) improves the stability a lot. Apparently a nasty bug is hiding in the DX10 renderer and until I find it, some players are affected by it.

But it's important to remember that up until now, Anomaly was designed to target the DX10 renderer, so unless you have problems with it, do not switch to any of the other renderers. In the future, Anomaly development will transition to target DX11 instead, I'll make it clear in the mod description when that's the case.

How can I access the debug menu?

Pass the parameter -dbg to the Launcher and the next time you start the game, the debug functions are enabled. This is not recommended if you just want to play Anomaly!

Should I also install Preview Updates?

Updated information for Anomaly Repack will be available soon.

Yes. Unless it says otherwise in the description of a Preview Update, they are usually recommended and may fix problems and crashes that are still in the game when you only install the officially released updates. You can find them in the Preview Updates forum post.

Is it recommended to play on Master difficulty?

Yes. The whole mod pack is balanced for Master difficulty. In fact, selecting another difficulty will not change much at all, so just keep the setting as-is.

I have more ammo for my gun, but I can't reload the weapon. What's going on?

In Anomaly the two actions (reloading / changing ammo type) are separated. Use the Change Ammo Type key to switch to the next available ammo type. The only time that reloading the weapon also switches to another ammo type is if the weapon is empty and you have no bullets of the selected type in your inventory.

My HUD is invisible. How can I see it again?

NOTE: this has changed in Anomaly Repack, the new key binding is the Scroll Lock key.

By default the H key toggles the HUD on/off. You probably pressed it at some point, just press it again to get the HUD back.

There is a female in Rookie Village that doesn't die, how can I kill her?

Hip can be killed in Anomaly Repack (actually since one of the recent Anomaly Updates)

The sound seems to loop sometimes, how can I fix that?

NOTE: This should be fixed, please report it as a bug if it still happens.

It is currently a known bug in Anomaly. Until I find a solution to fix it, press the ESC key to open the in-game menu and press ESC again to get back to the game. This is a workaround that usually fixes the sound issues.

The game is too easy

No, it's not. But if you disagree with me on that, check "How to make Anomaly more challenging" for some tips how to make it a bit more challenging than it's by default.

Other Stalkers of my faction are attacking me. Why are they so mean?

One of the reasons could be that you are wearing the armor of another faction. The Disguise mod is integrated into Anomaly and it gives you the ability to pretend to be a member of another faction by wearing their armor.

The grass is too dense, I can't see enemies easily and it's hard to kill them like this. Why is that?

That is part of the Anomaly Experience (tm) and designed this way intentionally. Most enemies are relatively easy to kill and this is part of the re-balanced difficulty to keep it interesting.

I found a bug or the game crashed, what should I do?

If you want to help me to find the cause and fix it in a future update, report it on the Support Board of the forum. Read the How to Report Problems post to see what kind of information should be included in the bug report.

The game crashes a lot, why keep people telling me it's more stable than many other mods?

There are many reasons why some people unfortunately have trouble running Anomaly reliably. The system requirements are quite high. Without a beefy PC, it's very likely that it will crash more often than mods that use a 32 bit engine. I recommend at least 16 GB of RAM, a recent quad-core CPU and a graphics card with at least 4 GB of VRAM, ideally at least something as powerful as a GTX 970 or higher. It's also only tested on Windows 10 and requires a 64 bit version of Windows.

In Anomaly Repack some presets were introduced for different tiers of PC's and those can be selected from the dropdown box in the graphics settings. With the recent Updates or Update Previews for Anomaly Repack, the stability was also improved a lot and switching from DX10 to DX11 removed the random crashes and freezes for most people that still had problems with DX10.

What kind of PC are you running Anomaly on?

I have 32 GB of RAM, the CPU is an Intel Core i7 6700K at 4GHz and my GPU is a NVIDIA GTX 980 Ti. With this setup I've played over 250 hours of Anomaly at the time I'm writing this and I only had 9 game crashes so far, mostly in older versions of the engine.

I like stealth games. Is it possible to sneak past enemies without killing them?

Yes. If you are behind an enemy, they can't see you unless they turn around. But be careful, they can still hear you if you make any noise.

I die a lot, is it normal that most enemies can shoot me from a relative long distance?

Welcome to S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

I like another mod or addon that is not in Anomaly. How can I get it to work with Anomaly?

That's really hard to say and depends on the mod. Most mods and addons are not compatible with Anomaly and need to be merged properly to work without breaking the game or causing crashes. One way is to point out a mod or addon on the forum. If I like it and it fits the theme of Anomaly, I might integrate it. If it doesn't fit and I decide not to integrate it, there's still a chance that it will be added as optional addon for Anomaly in the future.

I have another question that's not answered here, where should I ask?

Read the Forum Boards for Anomaly and if you can't find the answer to your question there, make a new post on the Support Board of the forum.

Are you sure the woman in Cordon village can be killed? I installed the game by unpacking the latest set of zipped files a few days ago and overwrote them with the 126 patch. On my first playthrough I killed the military and forgot I was wearing their suit when I strolled onto the farm and got into a firefight. There was one seemingly immortal NPC.

She just tanks a lot of bullets, but can be killed. That's the compromise I went for, because if she dies unintentionally it would cut off her questline.

Ah, OK. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't bugged. Normally I prefer quest-related/repairmen/major vendors to be totally immortal AND passive (meaning they sit there like Sidorovich even if you fill them with lead), but I guess that's a decent compromise.

BTW I think I remember you mentioning you would fix the extra delay in getting weapon parts when disassembling guns (which may or may not be related to the delay between using a vice and having the gun appear on it), but I don't recall seeing it in the 130 update you uploaded.

I really like the mod! It runs pretty fluently and stable on my laptop.
But I would like to implement my own music to the radio, like I easily did in TRX Radio for Call of Chernobyl.
Is this somehow possible?

Great mod, thank you.

Is there a way to get NPCs to equip repaired outfits?

What can we exactly do with "debug mode" on?

I'm in the process of modding some scopes (regular binocular scope is ugly AF and L85 has directly the wrong plain old texture, not the Gnomus beautiful one for some reason) as well as add some more scopes with different magnifications. So I want to spawn some items on me for testing purposes but can't see how. Thought it was a matter of enabling debug mode and use the "Spawner" tool like in other mods, but all I see here is the "(debug mode)" label in the menu screen and nothing else.

Okay this is cool and all but where is the master difficulty? Because seriously I took a billion ak bullets with regular stalker equipment and it was a breeze. Why did you take away the difficulty factor?

How does the gieger counter work? According to the description it should have three modes but I can't figure out how to change them

How do I change hotkeys?
