This is a (skirmish) mod created with the intention to bring the feeling of the Lord of the Rings & Hobbit movies into the old RTS game Battle for Middle Earth II, and add "realism" through new models and severe re-balancing of the entire game! BETA 4.5 was released in Nov 2007. New version, "Director's Cut" is under development... ///Nazgûl of The 3rd Age Forums

Description

G'day fans of The Special Extended Edition. This demo was originally uploaded at The Third Age, Revora Forums in 2007. And to celebrate the revival of SEE I am uploading the SEE Beta 4.5. Instructions from Nazgul "Important: This download is a stuffed RAR-file, meaning it needs to be Unpacked, using 7zip or similar program! Unpack to somewhere on your hard drive, then follow the "Installation Instructions"* included - carefully and there shouldn't be any problems. You can't sabotage anything, but you won't get the mod to load if you don't follow the instructions. So please do that and you'll SEE that it works perfectly!" Read the description below for a summary of Beta 4.5 written by Nazgul (in November, 2007). This is not the end of The Special Extended Edition, only the beginning. This SEE ModDB page has fantastic news coming this Easter 2015 about current progress and updates.

Ive tried so hard to get this mod to work. Ive reinstalled 3 times now. always extracting the SEE folder either into the (My Battle for Middle Earth 2 Files) or into my C folder, not into the installed pathway. and then I replace the Start in and Target of the special shortcut to their correct directories with no error messages. but when i start the special shortcut it just starts the main game without the mod.

I am running V 1.06

Extracting with 7-zip

please help

LOTR BFME II SEE mod

I will create a new account soon. I wanted to ask though, is this project cancelled/dead or still alive?

I want to say in all honesty, ents and mumaks and the Grond look really bad, too big and not fitting with all else.

On the other hand, good work with most things! I've followed this project for a time now and would love it to finally be born properly. The new factions are something I've been waiting for for a long time.

What Tolkien fan would not like to see Gondor duke it out against Mordor again? Lorien trumping Isengard and Erebor finally overcoming the darkness of Moria?

Some units will be larger than the vanilla game in Director's Cut, but they will not be supersized and we plan that they will not look low quality when they are resized.

The project is still alive, but it is slow with only two people working on it and Nazgul away most of the time.

I am sure this is what the target should look like.
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\The Battle for Middle-earth (tm) II\lotrbfme2.exe" -mod SEE

Check that your game is located in the correct place.
Check that you are editing the target.
Check that you have placed the SEE folder into the correct place

G'day, you only need to ask in one place! ;p

The download here is for the very old S.E.E. Beta 4.5. It does have working AI, and better AI. Although it is recommended to play with the highest maximum initial resources when starting the game.

I don't think the mod author has ever heard of an installer before though I hope I'm wrong. Since there's so many issues with people installing the mod it's not exactly rocket-science to make a simple installer program for this mod.

BTW: Does this work for the Fore Shire version?

S.E.E. is unlikely to work with a dodgy bundle of the game. Director's Cut would never work with a dodgy bundle.

I think friendly fire from nything other thn catapults is a bad idea. I have sent few attack trolls with my created troll hero to kill some buildings and the killed themselves... Realism is a good thing but not in a game like this. I cant use created troll hero because he ends up killing my own army. Its just plain stupid. Make his attack aoe but not against friendly units. Same goes with non hero trolls.

It requires a different strategy than the base game.

Like, there is that scene from Battlefield 1, and it really shook me up, where the Brits were bombing the Aussies with their ship cannons just to get the Ottomans.

And then there is the part in the movie Hacksaw Ridge where Doss is saving those men while the entire landscape is under fire from American ship cannons again who didn't know anyone else but the Japanese were up there.

I give you a tip for playing: you should decide to hold your troops back while you let the artillery do their job at destroying the buildings. The game has been re-balanced so that siege weapons are the most effective against structures.
