I really enjoyed playing the Battle For Middle Earth Series many moons ago so recently i re-installed them and found that the camera is way to close for my liking, i have found 2 great mods that makes BFME 2 and its expansion proper widescreen and sorts the camera out but there isn't one for the first game, so I did a bit of tinkering and made this mod.

Hi

I too just remembered that I had Battle for Middle earth and wanted to try it out... but i guess I remembered it as being better (aka zoom) lol. Thank you for making this "fix" however I cannot get it to Work :-( I put the file on here: C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\The Battle for Middle-earth (tm) started the game and loaded a save game - no joy. Im running patch 1.03, Win 7 x64.

Thank you.

im afraid this mod doesn't work for me, as per instructed i place the .big file into the Bfme 2 main directory but when i load up a mission the units/view doesn't look any more zoomed out. Please help?

btw i did install the widescreen fix as well could that be interfering?

Seeing how I'm possibly the only person in the entire planet who was looking for something like this (since the game is pretty much dead and obscure), I'll chime in on my thoughts.

My specs were:

Win7 x64
i7 3610QM
Nvidia 660m 2GB

Game was pretty much maxed out through the .ini with 8xCSAA and I installed it through the CDDrive (on the C:/ drive) after applying the 1.3 patch. I ran it at 1920x1080. Constant 60fps and even with the tweak showing more of the gameworld, I saw no FPS fluctuations.

Needless to say, this mod essentially allows you to zoom the camera to a degree that makes it comfortable to play at 1080p. AKA, no more headaches, as it basically is a FoV tweak. From what I understand, this modification had to be applied to every map shipped with the game, which sounds like highly tedious work and I truly thank the author for taking the time doing this.

Installing it could not have been simpler, I used Desura and it looks like the author made sure that the client installed everything to the right folders, however I DO have some issues:

1. If installing thru Desura, you MUST launch it from a shortcut with this target: -mod "C:\Users\Din\Documents\Battle for Middle-earth mods\Sloakz Camera Mod\SLOAKZCAMERAMOD.big"

2. The mod still says v0.8 even though this is the 1.0 release, which may confuse some.

3. It is difficult to tell, but unlike the BFME2 widescreen fix, this hasn't set the camera angle down a notch so that its looking down at the battlefield at an angle. Arguable since I'm not sure of this, didn't make any comparison pictures.

4. The camera fix applies to the opening cinematic...for some reason. Unless it was done by mistake, it lets you know that the mod is running, but it pretty much makes the sequence look kind of retarded since the camera will continue to move above the tower.

Otherwise, fantastic work. I might chip back in when I'm done beating singleplayer. :)

Your pretty much spot on with your issues, Some things i will def have to work on for the 1.1 release.

The opening cinematic adapting to the mod is a strange issue indeed but, i have no idea why that is happening??? Hopefully with a bit of digging around in the files i will find out.

Thank you for your feedback Hendrich :)

For some reason I can not get this to work. I believe I'm not doing anything wrong since the instructions are quite simple.
I just extract the "SLOAKZCAMERAMOD.big" file to my main bfme directory (In my case
"D:\Games\EA GAMES\The Battle for Middle-earth (tm)")
and then run the game through the shortcut like normal, am I forgetting something?

I had the same problem boys, it didnt work for me, so i did backup of my maps.big file (from C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\The Battle for Middle-earth (tm)). I advise you to do it as well because I did not properly test it... then i changed name of file SLOAKZCAMERAMOD.big to Maps.big and replaced the original file... so far works just fine for me :-) it was a little test tho, i didnt explore it further yet...works for campaign as well so far :-) enjoy and donĀ“t forget to backup your original file ! :-)
