Sins of the Gothic Galaxy is a newborn Warhammer 40K modification for famous Sins of a Solar Empire RTS strategy!
Inspired by Warhammer 40K books, lore stories and recently released Battlefleet Gothic Armada game (which we highly recommend to play), our creation is focused on Empire building and large scale fleet battles, rather than on direct combat managment.
Greetings, Admirals and Warmasters!
It's time for us to say some words about our progress for past month.
Although, our time and modding capabilities are extremely limited, we've managed to bring some new assets to the mod.
Development Update
This time, mostly buildings and some new ships, which you have already seen.
Orbital structures in following pictures will be used as alpha Imperial buildings. Chaos will have their own "corrupt" versions as well, but they are not ready yet.
Imperial Tradeport (Work in progress)
Imperial Civic Lab (Work in progress)

Imperial Astropathic relay (Work in progress)
Mechanicus Enclave (Military lab) (Work in progress)
Future Release Date
Well, we plan to release first Alpha as soon as we have all models textured and tested. Although we don't have precise release date, we expect it near New Year. Sooner or later - depends on number of staff we could find and bring to work.
If you think you can help us as texture/model/particale artist, please, contact Col.Woods!
That's all for now. Thank you for attention. Expect more pictures soon.
Today we want to introduce a new addition to Warhammer 40.000 mods line! This time, focused solely on epic space battles of Warhammer 40K Universe!
I would just like to say that when you are developing this mod you shouldn't feel forced to fill a slot for a specific race. What i mean by this is you shouldn't feel like you need to spend ages thinking about a model, building a model, and texturing a model just to fit the diplomatic ship role for the necrons. They don't use them so you can simply ignore it and it will give you more time to do what you want to do.
You should go at your own pace and what fits the lore, and should work around that. Don't worry about what an Ork culture station would look like, because they don't have them. I'm loving the models you guys have made so far and am looking forward to what you will produce in the future:)
i'd say go to the specialist forums for the gothicomp photos for insirpation for custom ships.. or ideas for new ones.
Yeah i agree with that, the sins model of "short ranged"/long ranged/siege/carrier/anti structure/anti figther blah blah" really have no place in a warhammer mod. There is a reason you dont put artillery and missiles plus cannons on a modern tank, its too small! a huge ship 3-12 km long dont have that issue. Just filling up said ship with anti fighter cannons would be ultra silly. What im saying is scrwew the standard sins ship roles. :D I guess everything but escorts can be levelable, as i doubt it will be more than 8 ships per faction heh.
You are so wrong... So naive... I was like you before... Let's just say, there are already more than 8 ships... And more to come.
Okay hehe. Sounds good.
Just remember that quality beats quantity every time! :D
We're going to bring you some really unforgiving, unfair and utterly desperate gameplay.
Heroic sacrifices, heavy losses and poor choices included.
I have a question to do with how the diplomacy will work since, in this universe it does not really exist. Also, again since I think the only faction that probably still remembers the term diplomat are the tau, will the 'diplomatic' ships just be slightly less heavily armed and armoured warships? Or does the imperium actually have purpose built diplomatic ships?
The Imperium of Man could not possibly exist without diplomacy. Humans are not savages in 41st millenia. They are highly developed culture, populated hundreds of worlds across the Milky Way Galaxy. Their technology is far more superior than that of Tau and their allies. Yes, humans are warlike and most of them live badly under hard religious opression. But they still posses great knowledge and surely their leadership realize well that negotiations with reasonable neighbours are needed.
So, yes, the Imperium of Man will have diplomacy. Tau also expected to have it in some highly developed form. Chaos and Orks diplomacy options will be limited. Tyranids and Necrons won't have any. It is... if they will appear.
All different factions await development. At the moment, we're far more concerned with models and textures.
If I remember correctly the Tau are technologically superior and the Imperium had numbers...
Tau fleet is inferior to Imperial in terms of hull, warp speed and numbers. They have good range and bombers, though. Plus, they have powerful allies, specializing in some aspects of battle.
I think Tau will be the easiest and fastest race to develop technology, i.e. they have late game units earlier, but their quality is lower. It's not confirmed yet, though.
Just like in DoW. Wanna live - develop strategy and stay away from close range combat.
Not exactly.
Just compare tens of millenniums of technology development with only a couple thousands years. The Imperium have the technologies that the Tau could only dream about.
About limited success of Tau intervention.
When Tau started there invade, in Imperium began a new crisis with the invasion of the forces of Chaos, plus a Hive-fleet and other things, so... These threats had much higher priority for the Imperium than a little tribe of techno-barbarian.
But don't worry. Tau will not be outcasts in our mod. Some sort of balance will be present. =)
The Imperium has really gone down the hill when it comes to technology, just putting a new cannon on a tank would need hundreds of years to get approved unless it came from a recovered STC. Invention is practically heresy, and with no invention they are left to dig through stuff from the past. There is indeed alot of stuff from the past lying around but much is also lost. Tau on the other hand is a new race with a much shorter history of invention but they actually invent things, fitting a new cannon to a tank for them would take months not hundreds of years. :D
Just take a look at the Tau torpedos, they actually MOVE, instead of traveling in a direct line like the imperiums crappy torpedos. HERESY! :P
Also the newer tau starships which is now in full production is just as good as the imperiums starships. Take a look at the custodian battleships and the protector cruiser, they really kick some serious ***.
The Imperium's technology has gone down hill over a period of ten thousand years of extremely slow-but-steady degeneration of science turning into mysticism. As ritual replaces mechanics, important parts of maintenance and construction are thrown away for not being mystical enough, or do to lack of understanding how important those minor adjustments are. Technpriests then start substituting oils and methods they deem particularly "holy" over the prescribed procedures for the machines they maintain and produce, damaging them and weakening the product. This has gotten steadily worse over ten millennia until it is now official policy and part of a state religion to screw up technology. However, there is the problem that Games Workshop contradicts itself in several places regarding forge worlds.
To sum it up, while the Imperium may sometimes pull some bit of Dark Age tech that trumps all else, it's rare and getting even more rare as it can't be maintained or repaired properly. Generally, the Tau have superior tech, but the Imperium can throw a thousand lower tech units for every 100 the Tau can put together.
"Holy", "mysticism" is just a words. Mechanicus just want to save their monopoly for technology development, and that's all. Maybe we see what they want to we should see? No one knows what exactly is going on in mechanicus cult. They keep their secrets good.
Any Tau technology have Imperium analog. Wait... Some thing wrong... Oh, yes! That's Tau technologies is an analog of Imperium tech. Don't forget whose tech was an example for Tau. =)
You are right, many technologies in Imperium was lost, but that is a small part of boundless knowlege.
And you are wrong to say that in Imperium isn't develop new technology. Well... recover lost tech, if you wish. =)
I will see to it...mhehehehe...
