And here we have the initial concept work for the insectoid Dre'canore faction, I began to design these ships with the insectoid look but may diverge from that design in favor of a more utilitarian look for this previously enslaved race of miners and workers their ships and technology could have evolved as such from such humble origins making for a more robust and durable design than an ovesized metal insect with engines that I'd started with. One insperational idea I had was from the British Scifi series Red Dwarf that features the ship designs of a similar nature and function that also use insect names along with their function as mining craft for their purpose of mining out asteroids and small planetiods for minerals, I guess the 2009 StarTrek movie shows us how a large mining vessel can be used in vastly devestating ways. Also with the insect origins for this faction some form of bio weapons will be used throughout the ships designs like some of our more known deadly insect species.
