Shores of Victory. A mod based on the Pacific Theatre of World War II, will let you go back to the times of the War, and fight it out on land, and sea.

Uisng the HL Engine to its full capacity, the SoV team is working on brining you one of the best WW2 mods ever with awsome Multiplayer maps, and awsome graphics, suitable for those with out an awsome NASA rendering machine. And oens with a Machine like that, well you wil lhave fun too!

Anyway enought of the Mumbo Jumbo, I was able to interview HuRR, one of the SoV leaders and asked him a few question about the mod.....

[page=The Interview]
ForK: Hi. Firstly, tell us a bit about yourself. Like where you come from, what you do for a living.

HuRR: My name is Max "HuRR" Shapnik. I'm project leader for the Battle Grounds mod and also the Shores of Victory mod. I live in New Jersey in an old revolutionary war town. I currently don't have a job due to the fact that I go to school. =)

ForK: How did you come about creating this mod, 'Shores of Victory’? What inspired you to do it?

HuRR: Well the idea wasn’t really mine. A mod called TFW aka The Forgotten War which was a Korean War mod was having problems at the time. I suggested that maybe it would switch to a Pacific Theater campaign because no mod really covers it. After 3 cups of coffee the team and I decided to make a mod called Shores of Victory. At first I didn't want to lead the mod, I only wanted to do forums and some admin work. Monkfish and Durendal who co-led TFW convinced me that iI should get involved with SoV and I did.

ForK: So the mod is based on the Pacific War, but where will you start? Will it be with the attack on Pearl Harbor? Or will it be after that, when the Americans decided to go "Island Hopping" to be in range of Tokyo.

HuRR: We basically aim to provide the mod community with the early years of the war. Like you mentioned "Island Hopping" that is what we are aiming to do. Hence the name Shores of Victory =). We are trying to do this so that we can make the mod realistic as possible but also make it fun for the gamers.

ForK: Ok Big question then, I noticed that on your website, you mention that the USMC will be the allied side. Will you include the Australians since they started the Island hopping for the Allied USMC after the bombing of Darwin?

HuRR: The beta 1 idea was to make it only USMC vs. IJA. For beta 2 the Australians will be in game. So you ForK can fight for your country against a common enemy.

ForK: Oh goody!! Anyway…..

ForK: The navy, both Australian and US played a big part in the Pacific war. Will you plan to have any navy featured in the maps like with maybe some landing missions or something?

HuRR: We haven't really planned on putting the navy as this mod was going to be strictly USMC and Aussies vs. Japan.

ForK: What about the maps, what will they be based on and how do you plan on getting the look and the feel for a pacific map? With all the mountains and jungle terrain?

HuRR: The maps for SoV will be fictional and historical. Some will be POW mode (Prisoner of War) and some will be CTF (Capture the Flag). We plan on waiting for the 1.1.1.1 patch which will give us the ability to put in modeled plants and foliage into the maps. So that will make you feel as if you were in the jungle.

ForK: You say POW, will this be a game play? What are the other game plays? How will they work?

HuRR: Well POW mode will be sort of like CS style game mode where you instead of rescuing hostages you will have to rescue soldiers. This should make it really interesting because the Japanese during WW2 took lots of American soldiers and tortured them so this game mode should really get you into the game. Another Game mode will be CTF which is basic TFC and DoD mode. Which is were you need to capture all points before your team can win.

ForK: Do you think this will get rather repetitive? Have you planned anything to set them apart from other mods? Such as the ones you mentioned?

HuRR: The thing with SoV is that we are always coming with ideas to make us different then another mod. We have already designed a damage system and also a type of recoil system that differs from CS and DoD. We have many ideas that we hope to implement but I can't tell you what they are.

ForK: Fair enough then! To wrap up, when do you think we will start seeing the in-game shots and maybe a beta?

HuRR: Well as we speak, MrChiChi our coder is coding in the CTF mode. Also we are getting guns animated so that will defiantly show progress. In game shots should be coming very shortly. If we progress like we are progressing now then the community will see a beta in the summer or early fall.

ForK: Nice, thanks for that HuRR, and would you like to say any last comments or thanks to anyone out there that may read this.

HuRR: I would first like to thank the BG and SoV team for giving me a chance to do what I love to do and that’s to work on mods =). I would like to thank Mike and Durendal from SoV for pushing harder and harder for me to get involved with SoV and the whole BG team for making me what I am. Also please visit The Battle Grounds mod at www.bgmod.com and the Shores of Victory mod at www.shoresofvictory.com.. Thanks to ForK for taking the time to interview me.

ForK: No Problemo

Question:
I thought I read somewhere that this was going to be modded for HL2 source?
(I really don't know much about HL2 mods, but I just bought the game..)
Is there anything to this?
