Thousands of years after Blue Planet, the cosmic destroyers once again find themselves at war with a resilient race hell bent on destruction.
Shattered Stars is a fan-made epilogue to Blue Planet and the entire FreeSpace saga, built on the very cutting edge of the FreeSpace 2 Open engine, and is set thousands of years into the future of FreeSpace, overlapping with the timeframe of Mortal Engines, a film adapted from the 2001 novel of the same name by Philip Reeve.
Shattered Stars places a larger emphasis on larger scale dogfights and battles with hundreds of capital ships and thousands of fighters. It is currently under development and will be a standalone and completely free download.
When I started Shattered Stars back in 2014, I originally envisioned it as a mod that was set in the same universe as the 2012 Total Recall remake, but it gradually became an overly ambitious original total conversion. Many of the developers on the FreeSpace 2 SCP were busy improving the engine, adding the features I badly wanted. This development basically started afresh, after I seeing a campaign, entitled Trimuthi, that allows players to play as the Shivans, now a stand-alone FreeSpace mod. This is what I exactly wanted to do something: create a big mod in a similar vein to Inferno and Blue Planet, but without all of the flaws of the former.
Blue Planet serves as the conclusion to the FreeSpace saga. Shattered Stars will be the epilogue, and present a look into the future of FreeSpace, when some species come upon the ruins of human civilsation. They indulge in their fiction of their own immortality until the day the cosmic destroyers came for them. That's not the only backdrop of the story.
It is set in the same universe as the motion picture based on Philip Reeve's book Mortal Engines.
Act 0, the tentative title for the demo, will be released this December.
