"Shadow Of The Wool Ball" is a first person shooter similiar to Wolfenstein 3D or Doom, though a lot less gory. You take the role of hedgehog Scott, who has to save his girlfriend from the clutches of an evil empire of space kittys that has enslaved his entire home planet. The game contains 18 levels, split up into three episodes.

Shadow of the Wool Ball is a Doom 2 mod made in the style of a Wolfenstein 3D mod/clone. You play as a business casual hedgehog (not that blue hedgehog) packing firepower to rescue your girlfriend from evil space cats.

The game features custom-made graphics in a crisp, cartoon style, reminiscent of 90s cartoons with an accompanying story/narrative that plays out as you progress. The gameplay and aesthetic are simple but solid and cohesive, as opposed to other mods that mismatch assets all willy-nilly.

The crisp, cartoony, and custom hand-pixeled graphics and smooth animations really give the game its flavor and flair. The music helps set the mood and create tension. It's non-descript on some levels, better on others. Many of the sound effects appear to be custom-made, as well.

You can tell a lot of love went into this game. It was also a well-deserved runner-up for the 2016 Cacowards. I would love to see more from WatchDaToast/MSPaintR0cks!

If SOTWB scratches that itch for you, check out the sequel, Rise of the Wool Ball, with improved level design, features, and more!

Shadow of the Wool-Ball is a clever take on Wolfenstein 3D with evil space cats instead of Nazis. The levels are amazing, with news ideas and traps introduced as the game goes on. Just the exit sequence alone makes it interesting, with you having to cause the level to self destruct and then run to the exit in ten seconds. I'm at the near end of episode 3, and I'm still craving for more.
