=====Getting started=====
Sanctum is a total conversion mod for Unreal Tournament 3 and therefore requires Unreal Tournament 3 to work. It is advisable
to have it updated to the most current version. (2.1)
In order to get Sanctum to work, you need to do the following:
1. Extract the folder "Sanctum" and its contents to "Documents and Settings/(Your user name)/My Documents/My Games/Unreal Tournament 3"
Please note that the folder needs to be in the Unreal Tournament 3 folder, and not the subsequent UTGame folder.
2. Right click on the shortcut file "Sanctum" inside of the Sanctum map and go into the Properties window.
3. Replace the shortcut Target with the directory to your Unreal Tournament 3.exe (UT3.exe) file followed by: -mod=..\Sanctum
For example:
"C:\Games\Unreal tournament 3\Binaries\UT3.exe" -mod=..\Sanctum
You also need to clear the "Start in" field in your "Sanctum" file properties in order to get it working.
4. Execute the game using the Sanctum file
5. Enjoy!
=====Key bindings=====
WASD - Movement
E - Use (Hologram and buttons)
Space - Jump

Mouse Scroll - Swap weapon
=====Description=====
Sanctum is a total conversion mod for Unreal Tournament 3.
It is being developed by Coffee Stain Studios, a group consisting of eleven university students at Högskolan i Skövde, Sweden.
Sanctum is a first person tower defense game where you take on the role as Skye, a female elite soldier.
Your sole purpose is to defend your hometown, Elysion One, from the invading force of mysterious alien creatures.
Choose from different defensive formations and upgrade deadly turrets to aid you in the defense of the city.
Use hand held weapons to give you an advantage.
The underlying reason for developing Sanctum was to take the popular tower defense game mode and get it
into a first person perspective. We also developed a quite unique and outstanding art style and feel of the game,
being communicated through choice of colours, musical theme and design on world objects.
The style is in distinct contrast to the overall look and feel of Unreal Tournament 3 and thus proves that
something very different can be produced by the popular engine.
The decision of making a total conversion was made so that we could produce all original
content instead of re-using the content by Unreal Tournament 3. This means that all the models,
textures, sounds and music is or will be developed by us. We are planning on further developing Sanctum
in a direction where we add Co-op, different game types and additional turret, enemy and weapon types.

Any patch notes to see exactly what you have added/fixed?
Well, the news post on our frontpage shows the big things. But a changelog for this step would be quite overwhelming. This is a different game, game mechanically, compared to the June release. And as this is still in an alpha stage, changelogs most likely won't be supplied.
Nice im really looking foreward to it ;) Skövde rocks!
w00t!!! New realize! Check it right now!
It's called a "release".. :P
I'm going to download this ASAP! (which is.. not right now)
Is this now multiplayer?
Unfortunatley, no, it is not.
This version is updated with more of the "real" mechanics ie. you can now build the maze yourself, dynamic pathfinding, more towers, more creeps etc.It really is a totally different experience compared to the old version.
We are actually working on the Co-op right now, and plan for it to be ready for the november beta release.
sucks that the mid-november release wont have co-op ):
It indeed does! We had so been hoping for it and if only we can sort it out, we will include it later!
But now we'll instead focus more heavily on a more enjoyable singleplayer experience :)
are there only 14 waves? or has my game bugged out? after defeating the 14th wave it didn't say build mode and so i can't build any more towers or activate the next wave.
There should be 15 waves. And that sure is a shame. We've had a few of those kinds of similar bugs but thought we had managed to sort them out. I've personally played the game through a few times and it has worked. But there is of course always a risk of it lagging at the exact wrong moment, a monster getting stuck somewhere and so on :S
If you have any more information than that, it would help us in troubleshooting the problem. Else I guess the best I can do is to tell you that we'll try harder to solve those kinds of issues fort he mid-November release.
if it happens again i'll ghost around and see if i can find the stuck creep (it also did say that there were 0 creeps left)
it happened again (on a different wave, 11 i think) and i floated around the map and i could not find any think out of place. perhaps just a bug.
sorry i can't give any more infomation
Okay, thank you for the help. I'll do my best to check if we can solve that. It sure is not a great bug :S
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Can't play. When the level is loaded, and the "Press fire to start" screen shows up, clicking doesn't work at all.
Really? Are you absolutely sure? Sometimes I've only had that it takes a few seconds for the level to fully load, and when you click the left mouse button, it takes a few seconds for the intro sequence to start.
I've however never heard of it not starting at all. I'd be glad to help you out further if you have some more information to share, as it's quite difficult for me to troubleshoot your problem right now.
hmm, tried to play with my steam version of ut3, got to the spalsh screen then ut3.exe crashes. This is the error message that gets pasted to the clipboard:
"Failed to find file for package SanctumFrontEnd for async preloading.
RaiseException() Address = 0x7c812afb (filename not found)
CxxThrowException() Address = 0x78158e89 (filename not found)
Address = 0xbb4f92 (filename not found)
Address = 0xe8781b4c (filename not found) "
Are you sure you're not using "-useunpublished" at the end of your command line? And that sure sounds odd. Have never seen nor heard of anyone getting just that. Make sure you've put everything in the correct folder, make sure you've followed the readme file and that your download is not corrupt in some way.
I hope you manage to solve the issue, johnnoz.
I have the same error
i get the same thing ):
When i Try to change to Shortcut target it says an error message saying it cant go there?
I have followed to instructions.
You could also try by simply adding "-mod=..\Sanctum" to your usual Unreal Tournament 3 executable. That will have the same effect and might even be an easier way of doing it through steam. Just add that to "Set launch options"
Hope that helped.
thanks it works now
but you really need a way to make this more friendly.
We are working on that :) We are still in an alpha stage where we have been under much time-pressure due to tight deadlines. We will sort these things out and hopefully it'll get better over time :)
I'm happy it worked for you. Enjoy the game.
It runs fine, but the third level is impossible to beat; the game is so difficult. Other than that, my only criticism is that the game relies too heavily on the player character's gun; making turrets more powerful and removing the gun would improve gameplay, in my opinion.
The third wave is in no way impossible to beat. And this is quite an outdated version, sadly. We have a new version in store, just have to squish a few bugs and we'll hopefully release it publicly. You'll see many improvements, such as upgradable towers and weapons, new enemies and so on.
The game is beautiful, until the tenth wave the game is easy then things get complicated. Congratulations really: I was waiting for 16 wave.
Thank you :) Expect more in the future with additional enemy types and levels. We have more in store!
i changed the sanctum shortcut i putted there(doel = purpose i think lol):
"C:\Program Files\Unreal Tournament 3\Binaries\UT3.exe" -mod=..\Sanctum
and at start in theres nothing look(beginnen in= start in):
Img710.imageshack.us
anything else i have to do, and if i want to run the mod i just run sanctum right?
That should be correct if that's the folder where you're UT3.exe is located. What happens when you try starting it?
If you have the steam version, you can simply add "-mod=..\Sanctum" as a launch option for Unreal Tournament 3.
Other than that, everything in the readme file should be correct and work in the absolute majority of cases. I hope you manage to figure it out, if not, I'll gladly try helping you some more.
when i start ut3 by using the sanctum shortcut im just playing normal ut3,
and cant find any sign of a the mod.
i dont got the steam version
HELP ME PLEASE!! if i start this game, i get the splash-image, then a black screen and then i get an error message. Then it goes to my desktop and then i get another error-massage.
I do NOT have the -unpublished line in the shortcut and i have the non-steam version
