I've wanted to play this for a long time!
No issues found in my playthrough.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of playing this mod under 227, as opposed to OldSkool (graphics, multiplayer, skins, weapons, hardware compatibility..)?
227j supports HUD scaling and advanced difficulty levels. I've finished this campaign on "Ultra-Unreal" level and I can recommend this difficulty to everyone who finds "Unreal" too easy for the given mapset.
Awesome! Just completed the mappack, and everything works great, the only crash I had is with the spider sacks when I tried to jump on top of one, it threw an error with something related to the player skin.
While Evolution had better original RTNP maps in some ways, I really dug the aesthetics of new Skaarj temple maps.
Introducing more human bots as enemies was something I really wanted as well, and the encounters are much better this time because they have non-hitscan weapons.
My only other issue with maps was the loud reverb in Nitrogen-filled pipes on Merc's ship, and very loud rain effect on the map before that.
Other than that, this is what RTNP should've been pretty much like other people said!
The ALAudio subsystem has abnormally high reverb intensity by default, but it may be lowered in the game config (Unreal.ini -> ALAudio.ALAudioSubsystem -> ReverbIntensity). It may also play ambient sounds at a higher volume than originally supposed (taking Galaxy as the reference audio subsystem, which was widely used by mappers). Such a volume may be tweaked by changing the value of AmbientFactor. You may have to relaunch the game in order the changes to take effect.

About the maps, it seems that the only map that still depends on the [Female2SkinsUT.u] package is Soledad, probably to display the dead Sonya body that appears in the beginning of the map.
I used a HEX editor to remove the reference to that package and the map still runs fine in 227J and in UT436.
