"We were pretty much all in school at the time, so I suppose a long break just inadvertently turned into indefinite hiatus. There wasn't ever a decision to stop or anything so far as I'm aware.
The next big step was going to be a move to the source engine, so that basically meant everyone needed to learn all new tools and techniques on top of planning for the next release and pretty much starting from scratch on a majority of the game assets. There was a lot we wanted to do with the expanded capabilities of the new engine, so we knew we were taking on a large and very time consuming endeavor. I suppose we all just got sidetracked in the process."
