Rise of the Reds – or ROTR for short – improves upon the C&C Generals formula while also adding its own distinct elements to it. Most notably, the mod adds two completely new factions, the tank-heavy Russian Federation and the defence-oriented European Continental Alliance. In addition, the three original factions China, USA and GLA have been greatly expanded and redesigned in a variety of ways, with several new units, buildings, powers and abilities to explore and combine in your in-game tactics.
The VDV RPG troopers are Russia’s airborne anti-armor elite. They are a rare sight as they work behind enemy lines, targeting enemy tank columns in very small teams of usually no more than 4 men covertly. These men carry a new RPG model that is used exclusively by them and is rumored to be a new design that the Federation isn’t willing to mass produce for conscript use just yet. Their specialized role makes them very vulnerable however, which is why in major battles they are deployed as part of a company together with standard VDV soldiers and BMD-3s for protection. These men combined can be quite a threat, striking without warning and are known to neutralize enemy bases in minutes.
COOL!
Good job!!!
Will you include Sneaky Spetsnaz in ROTR? (duh)
Yes, General Orlov will get Spetznaz battalion troops as his basic infantry, and that's all you need to know for the moment lest they raid your house and blow it up. Sneakily, of course.
LOL.
Do these guys have longer range than the standard anti-armour trooper? And are they more powerful? =D
They're elite troops with highly modern equipment, so they're hardly going to be worse than Conscripts. The VDV takes only the best, you know!
VDV doctrine:
- Destroy all enemy helicopters
- Then go for it! Destroy enemy's base in the matter of second (But remember to avoid the tesla tank and turret. These 2 things are the nightmare of infantry)
The VDV RPG Trooper can't fire at airborne targets, so part one of your master plan has gone up in flames.
I mean desroy them BEFORE dropping the VDVs. :D
its ruck sack reminds me of the spetsnaz in COD 4 were there rocket hang out there back
Why no anti-air VDV? I suggest that the machine gunners get the ability to fire into the air like Boris with a machine gun.
If the VDV Airborne ability had AA-capable soldiers, then it would frankly be totally overpowered; their weakness at the moment is basically attack helicopters, given that the BMDs, VDV machine-gunners and VDV RPGs can already mince just about anything short of a Paladin spam on the ground. It should need to be used intelligently, not just as a free pwn-all army in the back of someone's base.
*shiver* okay... My strength in number of China's Tank warfare is suicidal against this new threat! Need to change plan! I need military reforms!!!
The VDV RPG trooper can only be paradropped, so there won't be too many of these on the map at once. They're a threat, but nothing that a few gats can't take care of.
That's a relief... wait... PARADROP!? Twin Fang can shoot them while their in the air? Or Gatling Tank and AA defenses can shoot them while their in the air?
Just like any other paradrop, yes. It's been that way since vanilla Generals, you know...
yes and since VDV can't target air unit, the Chinese Han Gunship with nuclear missile upgrade will make a short work of them ( If you "release" the missile accurately) :D
At the moment, there's actually a weird bug where the VDV Infantry are totally invulnerable to the Han nuclear rockets! Should be fixed next time though.
Well, no need to fix that bug. :)
Just a random question....
why the mask? (like the storm troops)
To make them look cooler, primarily.
He looks funny, reminds me of Star-Wars 2 Battlefront.
-Flot
For use in chemical warfare environment? (PS: The VDV Infantry are equipped with RPKs, heavily armed indeed!)
They're not any more resistant to toxins or radiation than any normal soldier if that's what you mean - it's really only there for looks.
Just kidding on that part though, I bet that the RPG sound effects would be as beefy as Boris'...
the same role as the HALO troppers in SW?
Is this guy wearing a gas mask?
It would be cool, if when reloading, reached into his backpack...
It's funny that conscripts have Night vision but VDV and Shock Troopers don't have. How come?
Шапка-Ушанка и Противогаз?! Хе, да он бы и бегать так не смог...
I love the VDV airborne raid and conscript drops, and vehicles, but the VDV drop has one flaw that makes it completely useless. The VDV infantry have no anti-air! Its extremely aggravating because you will drop all of your paratroopers into a given area, and a bunch of apache's if your fighting the U.S. will come and just destroy the whole bunch, and it was all for nothing. Could this be an issue that could be addressed in the next update? Its really annoying when they have no way to defend themselves >:(
Bring your own anti-air. Or build fighter planes. They're already ridiculously good against anything on the ground; giving them anti-air would be OP.
VDV - Nobody, but us!
