Rise of the Reds – or ROTR for short – improves upon the C&C Generals formula while also adding its own distinct elements to it. Most notably, the mod adds two completely new factions, the tank-heavy Russian Federation and the defence-oriented European Continental Alliance. In addition, the three original factions China, USA and GLA have been greatly expanded and redesigned in a variety of ways, with several new units, buildings, powers and abilities to explore and combine in your in-game tactics.

"the large-scale use of such weapons in combat detaches operators and politicians from the brutality and human cost of real warfare." Just like how artillery operators, supersonic bombers and CAS pilots are detached from the brutality of warfare? I'm sorry ECA, but that is a really stupid excuse.

sure those things that you mentioned are detached from the brutality of warfare but not the human cost if a bomber, artillery piece, CAS air craft gets blown up then whoever is piloting them still dies, unlike a drone.

That is a good thing, how? The fact that a soldier died? Drones would help ECA alot since their enemies at their gates and they have suffered numerous losses. This is also hypocritical since ECA is often purported to "gave a damn about their soldiers" as evidenced through their extensive health programs and the powered armor they are willing to give their soldiers. But wouldn't a nation that cares about it soldiers do everything in it's power to reduce the amount of human causalities it experiences while engaging in combat? Look, SWR, I understand that you have to make a logical in-lore explanation that also ties into the faction's playstyle but this just doesn't make any since as far as I am concerned.

The difference between pilots/artillerymen and drone operators is that the former are still physically present in a combat zone, whether zooming over it at top speed or being a few kilometres away from the immediate firefight. There's still some tangible element of threat to their experience, whereas a drone operator might as well be killing people from the safety of an entirely different country or continent. That -is- the ultimate detachment and the ECA chose to avoid this because they didn't want to make it too easy for themselves to go all gung-ho and interventionalist around the world. The fact that this reeks of a certain hypocrisy and self-delusion is actually fully intended from a story-perspective, since this is still the same faction that re-instated the use of 'intelligent' cluster bombs and a-pers mines BEFORE the war and escalated it with neutron bombs and nerve gas at its height. The fact that this seems jarring an off is supposed to reinforce the point that there can NEVER be such a thing as a clean or moral war, no matter how hard you try.

Or watch the streams. The anvil was used at least once in one of the streams.

Eeeh. Tried watching the stream, it got out of my connection as a slideshow. Considered going on youtube, but decided that sifting through 9 multi-hour streams for information is too much time for even my procrastinating ***.

Great idea for a new unit. Shield tactics will make the gameplay even more interesting! Also like that original design. Wanna test it in battle.
The only thing that makes me sad is...
Something that once began as Rise of The Reds now slowly turns into a Rise of The ECA. All that high tech stuff for US and ECA with robots, uber-tanks and spacemarines and cold war era weapons (BRDM-1, T-64 and etc) for Russia and China makes it not Rise of The Reds anymore.
Anyway, it doesn't mean that the mod isn't awesome itself. Just the main idea has completely changed. Even stereotypical USSR from Red Alert was looking more dangerous and advanced.

Description

The ECA has set itself a policy of restricting the use of unmanned vehicles to a bare minimum, arguing that the large-scale use of such weapons in combat detaches operators and politicians from the brutality and human cost of real warfare. As such, unmanned vehicles only serve in functions where human soldiers would simply be impractical to begin with. The prime example is the Anvil Bot, an autonomous armoured support vehicle of British design that is purely intended to shield nearby friendlies from enemy attacks. Similar to the ECA's legendary Manticore tank, the Anvil surrounds itself with a swarm of nano-scale particles manipulated by an artificial intelligence inside the parent vehicle. Unlike the Manticore, which uses these 'nano bots' to refill holes and cracks in its armour, the Anvil uses them to generate a finely calibrated field of electromagnetic interferences which confuse enemy rangefinders and targeting systems, effectively making it impossible to aim precisely at the units within the Anvil's area of effect. This comes with a major tradeoff in that the Anvil itself produces a very distinct electromagnetic signature which makes it a very easy target, an issue that has been partly remedied via the installation of nano shock panels to increase its protection. It should also be noted that the Anvil has to move at a much slower pace while maintaining its protective shield. Ever since its introduction in early 2049, the Anvil has served its own part in protecting Europe's ever dwindling arsenal of combat vehicles from attrition. Unlike the Manticore tank, Anvil Bots can be deployed in numbers upon choosing the eponymous protocol
