What are uglies, like junk ships?

Yeah, basically. In the books and comics, various pirate factions would salvage junk from scrap yards or debris fields and make composite fighters, as it was cheaper than buying brand new starfighters (and since most reputable companies wouldn't sell their fighters to criminal organizations to begin with).

Pilots from more organized military structures often referred to these salvaged craft as 'uglies.'

why don't they just rebuild them with the fitting parts instead of building those mixtures of tie fighter and x or y-wings? that's weird.

cause they are stupid pirates.

Because the "fitting" parts aren't always readily available and when you need to make repairs or modifications quickly, you use what you can get.

Somehow this looks just like a bug;) Will you do the same with some corvettes? It would make sense to give the pirates some modified CR90s or other ships of that size.

Yes, and the same things with cruisers, destroyers, battleships, SSDFs. We need uglies for every class of EVERYTHING. Even infantry and heroes. Imagine ugly ewoks with stormtrooper heads!

Haha that would be funny. Unfortunately pirates aren't in the business of genetic mutation.

Don't need to be geneticists, just need stormy helmets...

I do have plans to add "ugly" freighters and so forth. The Hutt faction especially was known for using such craft.

Hmm...I'm with packy21 here. These units, in your mod, anyways, are a bit of a contradiction, being beautiful uglies.

Just to spice this up a little, I am wondering if it would be possible to "mix and match" different ship, not player wise, but game wise. Like say. Left wing of a TIE interceptor, body of Ywing and right side Xwing.

Or does the engine only allow for that much flexability that it has to have a matching pair of wings? Or was it just for you own ease of comfort? So you didnt get a headache when makeing them look so, ah, ehm, good :D Other than that bang up job as always.

Oh, the ships can look however I want them too. I just have to model them that way. However, some "ugly" designs are almost standard among pirate factions so I was modeling the known designs.

The Zceptor would look nice in your mod btw, Starwars.wikia.com
I mean it would really show the ugly side of a ship.

Yeah, it is a much more "junky" looking fighter. I should probably do more to make the existing ones look cobbled together from spares. Add exposed piping/wires, add lasers were there shouldn't be any and stuff like that.
