I don't think there is a whole lot to compare it to besides the stock model... But thank you very much anyway :)

Well that's an incredibly high-poly mesh...I don't think they are comparable. Its two different art forms, really.

Yeah, Fractal's models are damn-near movie quality, I just find it neat how far the Blastboat went from it's original incarnation, draws an interesting comparison.

But seriously man, considering you made this particular model and texture not only by yourself but with the limitations of the game engine, you've gone above and beyond expectations, awesome work! Keep it up!

The goal was to release by the end of the year. That date is rapidly approaching and there is still much work to be done... I'm working hard but it may be some months after the original goal date.

No rush, this mod is great and all but your real life takes precedence. Besides I'd rather play a completed mod rather than a buggy mess.

I'm looking at you, AC: Unity.

and battlefield 4, you know it is sad when the BETA is more stable than the actual game.

That's the idea. I'm so eager to release and sometimes I just want to put something out there so people don't get bored waiting... But I refuse to release something that is rushed or half-assed. RotM has literally been my passion for years and it deserves this update to be as perfect as I can make it.

Someone really needs to donate 3000 euro (or dollar, if you live in the US) to you so you can take a month off from work so you can do this fulltime for a month. The eye candy that'd come out of that would be amazing.

USD would be amazing. Haha. Actually, part of the reason not as much work got done over the summer as I would have liked is because I got laid off from my job. So my summer was spent either doing contract work, looking for work, or working on other things to improve my portfolio and resume... Life can be a bitch.

Yep I know the feeling. I'm in the same boat and AOTR is moving at sand crawler speed. Nice to see you're still making progress!

What you really need is an army of mind-controlled-artist-robots. Or a time machine.

The way I see it, if you're going to build a time machine, you might as well do it with some style! *Takes out down payment on a DeLorean*

I'm kinda curious, how much do these (completely awesome) models impact performance compared to vanilla FOC?

Reply Good karma Bad karma+1 vote

Actually, not much. In fact, some of the models have been made even MORE optimal than the stock ones, they just have higher-rez and more detailed textures. The biggest impact probably comes from some of the new environment details but even that isn't really noticeable. I've played the mod on an average laptop that had a terrible graphics card and it ran fine at med to low settings. So on a rig that has decent processor and GPU, its as smooth as a baby's bum, even at max settings.

...Smooth as a baby's bum is certainly not a phrase I expected to be used with a game.

It's what came to mind at the time. Lol. Not sure it really fits but I think I got the point across.

It does indeed get the point across. Smooth as butter/silk would work too, I guess.

So...in the vanilla game, this was a bomber, if memory serves.

Is that going to be it's role in the mod? Or will it be more of a fighter-bomber? And will the rotating wing thing be controlled via an auto-s-foil ability?

The model itself is, as per usual Farseer standards, quite nice to look at.

Thanks! Yes, the S-foil will be auto, like the rest of the S-foil craft. As for function, it will still serve primarily as a bomber and capital-ship-killer but it will certainly be able to defend itself well against most threats. It's real weakness will be corvette-sized ships or heavy fighters like the K-wing or Kyr'Galaar.

Description

Originally designed for the Empire to fill the the gap between fighter and bomber, the Skipray functions as an attacker, primarily intended to take out ground targets or capital ships; a role that none of the poorly defended TIE series ships were yet capable of. Later TIE models such as the Defender were able to take on this role but for it's time, the Skipray was revolutionary and feared by it's enemies.

Armed with an ion cannon turret, twin heavy lasers, and proton torpedoes; the Skipray could be best compared to the B-wing in terms of strength. In fact, some might argue that because it is easier to fly, has a fully-rotating turret and room for a much larger payload, that the Skipray is even more powerful. A few militaries even classify the Skipray as a capital ship all by itself.
