The Empire has fallen and a New Republic is born out of the conflict. But in the ashes of civil war, yet another life stirs...
Just a quick preview of the infantry in game. The final versions are going to have armor that is a bit more randomized (not truly random as the game doesn't allow for that). I plan to add backpacks to some, antennas or other helmet accessories to others.
Hah, looking great!
What is that mega-awesome rifle that the lead Mando is carrying?
Looks like a high-tech version of the Trandoshan LMG from Republic Commando.
It's most definitely this: Moddb.com
The glorious looking Mandalorian pulse rifle, making deep holes into enemies since, well... ahm..., since Mandos using pulse rifles. ;)
Yes, it's that. As far as where in the SW universe does it come from? It doesn't... I created the weapon myself, as I have with most of the weapons the Mandos will be using.
ARC 150 Heavy ACP Repeater :D
Kandosii!
Though I'd still recommend to turn the trigger on that big gun upside down, that way the animation would look more natural. Moving the other grip forward a bit would also be good I think. And imho the gun model is a bit too large.
Randomized armor sounds awesome. Honestly the legs look a bit naked on this guys in comparison to the upper body.
I hope that doesn't sound too negative, just tyring to give some constructive criticism. ;)
What about the animation looks unnatural? In any case, I drew inspiration from the heavy bolters of WH40K:

There is no such thing as a gun that is too large.
Take a look at Boba Fett's armor:

Many Mandalorians did have leg armor as well but it wasn't universal.
While 40k is definitely very cool (playing the tabletop myself), it is known for being somewhat over-the-top, which doesn't fit SW that well. With the space marine it also kinda works because he is very bulky (and has strenght-enhancing power armor) and can weild a fuckhuge bolter like that without looking silly.
But your infantry models are more realistic in their proportions and thus it doesn't quite work the same way.
The assault rifles are also perfectly fine, but honestly right now the heavy gun looks way too heavy to be handled the way it is by that mando. The whole thing, but especially the shoulders are too high up and he should be kinda lean back a bit trying to compensate for the weight of the weapon.
In SWTOR it's maybe even a bit overdone, but if you look at pics of that heavy gun guy, you'll see how he leans back to compensate for the weight of the gun pulling him down in the front: Republictrooper.com
And that guy also has to be able to carry that thing for hours. The running animation also propably makes it look worse though.
Anyway I think this would be a better inspiration then 40k though: Media.indiedb.com
Of course that doesn't mean your design is bad, it looks very cool. I'd just scale it down a little bit, change the trigger and move the grip forward a bit.
And on the armor: It's true, leg plating isn't mandatory, but even Boba had kneeplates and he has some big pouches on his legs, which compensates for the lack of leg armor and doesn't make his legs look too naked in comparison to the upper body.
I think just adding knee plates would do alot and Bobas configuration also seems to be the lightest in use. I don't think there are canon mandos without knee plates.
But maybe I'm just overly picky on the armor because I started making myself a beskar'gam and now I'm overly sensitive about mandalorian armor designs. Lol.
I did go back and noticed that kneeplates are a least a minimum for leg armor, for all Mandalorians. I'll revisit the armor a bit when I create the helmet configurations and so forth.
I do have to contend with what you're saying about the shoulders being to high though. A person who is lifting heavy weight both leans back and raises their shoulders; this guy is doing both, though the lean is harder to see from this angle.
I totally understand what you are saying about the 40k Marines being bulky and therefor logically able to wield such massive weapons. I guess in my mind, a gun that is designed to punch a hole through tick armor in 1-3 bursts should be quite large. Keep in mind too that Mandalorians do have a lot of strength enhancing armor pieces as well, such as Crushgaunts.
Fair enough, maybe it's just the running animation that makes it look weird.
In 1972, a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men...
Absolutely amazing work!
Thank you all!
Damn these have got to be my favorite mando models. I'd like to know where you got the idea for the models from if you haven't answered it already.
Weapon models are based off modern equipment, where possible and generally Warhammer 40k for the more futuristic stuff.
DUDE! That's awesome!
Thanks!
Reminds me of everything amazing in life
