Nice! Are these still primarily an anti-infantry turret? Very much like the new textures.

Yes. Their actual use in SW lore was to be an anti-infantry turret so Petroglyph actually chose correctly when they made it that way in-game.

Some notable differences though:

In SW lore the DF9 was also somewhat of a threat against light vehicles like the ATST. It had light shielding in addition to the durasteel armor. AND, it could fire one shot every three seconds (rather than the rapid-fire that it had in vanilla EaW).

I guess rapid fire made sense against squads of infantry just like a machinegun. I wonder ho are you gonna balance that.

Area of effect damage. An explosive shot basically. They work that way in battlefront and its believable.

How are you creating the textures? I mean in which program?

Well Photoshop of course for the base paint. I use traditional texture methods for low poly (by traditional I mean outdated...LOL) and then I paint the dirt and more organic things with my Wacom tablet.

For the normal maps I use Crazybump to generate them and then refine them as needed in Photoshop.

You know it was also used in the Clone Wars by the CIS before the Galactic civil war

Source?

I don't know of anywhere in both old EU or new Disney canon which states this.

Actually according to some visual sources they (or at least very similar turrets) were used by the Republic during the Clone Wars as seen in the old pre-TCW Clone Wars comics depicting the Battle of Jabiim: Vignette.wikia.nocookie.net

Then again, comic artists often take creative liberties which such things.

Also good texture work as always.

"Then again, comic artists often take creative liberties which such things."

And this is why what's clearly a Venator is listed as an "unknown mandalorian ship type" in an Old Republic comic. Lol

I'd be willing to bet the df9 here is a non canonical appearance but interesting nonetheless.

Description

The DF9 Turret was produced by Golan Arms during the galactic civil war as an armored anti-infantry defensive emplacement. Initially used by the Empire, Golan Arms eventually approached the Alliance with a sales offer when Imperial leadership moved production of the weapons to companies that were owned by friends of the Empire or personal family members. In other words, when Golan's own weapon was no longer profitable to them due to Imperial nepotism.

The Alliance was eager to acquire anything resembling modern technology and purchased the DF9 in great quantities, using them as one of their primary defensive weapons at many of their bases across the galaxy. The New Republic continues to use the turrets today as they are quite reliable and ubiquitous.
