Lets talk a little about aesthetic features of levels, but mostly lets talk about your opinion. I've been doing a little tinkering around with the style I want the building featured in Reversion to show. At the moment they use the default building textures from Half-Life 2 and I think it works well, a few changes aside the textures fit almost perfectly. The change I'm proposing is too switch the design of buildings from the top half of the below image, to the bottom half of the below image.

I've been doing a little tinkering around with the style I want the building featured in Reversion to show. The change I'm proposing is too switch the design of buildings from the top half of the below image, to the bottom half of the below image.

Extreme Growth

As you can see the level of growth on the second image has been massively increased and although I like the change, both styles stand up fairly equally against one another. Please keep in mind that both images represent levels that are not complete and will feature glitches and lighting problems.

Extreme Growth

So, I'm looking for feedback from you. I can honestly say that switching back to the old style would not bother me at all and my opinion on the change is one of apathy at best.

What do you think, Old, New, a mix of both. Comment below!
Thanks for reading!

It's very difficult to take a side, both version have their own merits. I think it's ultimately what kind of atmosphere you're going for in the mod; the old gives it a slightly surreal, dreamlike quality because you just have these sudden, clean/semi-clean bright buildings plopped in the middle of all this greenery. The new is more complete, making the buildings a part of the forest.

Personally, I prefer the old, because I think it gives a more unique feeling- it seems that in most media where urban areas are overgrown they spam vines, but the images here look very different. That, and I sort of like the surreal quality- it feels like you've wandered into some sort of bizarre dream of the future.

i agree with Mr.Walrus mostly,
except i would go for a mix of both. SO you will be able to make more different looking places, otherwise maybe it could start to look a bit the same after some time, but that is only a maybe.

Other then that i would like to say that it is always a good thing to ask people what they like. I did this myself long ago when i started modding, but quit soon i noticed that it simply is impossible to make something what is liked by everyone. SO just ask and listen, but then do what YOU like and think is best!!

like what i see so far, so i will track this one from now on.

I agree with Leon, there should be a mix of both of them, depending of the area, how old the building is, and the vegetation in the area.

The only problem I see is that the vegetation on the building is too symetrical, most of it is in the pillars and a little leaving the pillars, I think it should be more assymetrical, like it would be with nature.

The ground texture doesn't fit the building at all in the old one.

I'd go with the overgrown building.

The scenery taken over by vegetation looks way more interesting.

the new one looks better because after being abandoned, buildings will also become overgrown

Vegetation over growing the building, but with less symmetry, more randomized and varied.
