The main variant that is being rapidly modernized to is the Su-25SM standard. There are also limited numbers of the Su-25SM3 which are in service. The difference being SM = modernization program (mid-life) SM3 = newly built variant with advanced technology not found on SM.

I was waiting for your comment, actually if you didnt comment I was gonna ask you about the variants because I saw the Su-25T / Su-25SM / Su-25TM (Su-39) and I read about their technical differences on wikipedia however I can hardly find any differences in appearance. I really want to know the difference in appearance between them. I noticed the Su-25T gun is below the aircraft instead of on the left side (relative to the pilot) as seen in older su-25 models. Is that always the case? Also, the upgrades are similar to the Su-27, SM is mid life and SM3 is new. (i didnt notice the SM-3 before this comment). Thanks for the info :)

Su-25TM (Su-39) features and technologies are incorporated into the SM1/SM2 (Su-25SMs)

"Previously delivered Su-25SM/SM2 upgraded aircraft will be brought up to Su-25SM3 standard during their next overhaul later this decade."

Also heres a look into the SM3 cockpit:

Smartnews.ru

Also keep in mind that the TM (Su-39) was cancelled but its technologies and features are incorporated in the SM1/SM2/SM3 families.

yes I am aware of the fact that some technologies of the su-39 were incorporated into the Su-25SM as wikipedia mentions that. However not all technologies used on the Su-39 were taken, some were newly developed just for use on the Su-25SM. My problem got solved, i found enough pictures of the su-25SM but not many reliable ones of the Su-25T. Ill include the Su-25SM instead of the Su-25T in this mod.

Here is a photo of an Su-25SM3:

Yes and if you look at the photo you will see its actually a more common aircraft painting color. Certain serial Su-34/35 S also carry this kind of scheme.

The SM will be modernized to SM3 standard and by doing so will surpass the capabilities of the TM(Su-39). Remember that the Su-25SM is a mid-life upgrade just like the Su-27SM.

Yes, both the Su-35S, and the Su-34. Also the upgraded Tu-160's might be painted black. I think I read that somewhere about 2 months ago but I cant remember where. Luckily, this scheme should be much easier to texture.

Nope. The upgraded Tu-160 won't be painted in that color.

En.rian.ru

The decision to paint in shades of Grey have been reversed. However there are some aircraft that will retain it as they have been repainted when the decree/order was given.

Their going back to the environmental camouflage scheme and abandoning this grey.

"Not all warplanes will be repainted, he added, only new aircraft and those that have undergone major repairs." That's a bit confusing however as it could mean that they repaint them for the new camouflage scheme for for Grey.

Could have been done less. Aircraft (esp. for such low-fi game as Generals) doesn't need to be THAT smooth. I made Su-25 with tail, weapon pilons for a game much more modern than Generals and it took me 910 polies totally.

Of course it could be done less. However, more polys sometimes mean more eye-candy but thats not always the case. I am trying to use the polys I have wisely to create a balance between eye candy and game performance. One of the major goals of this mod is to enhance the graphics of the game. However, I dont want to sacrifice game performance for graphics. As I said earlier I am trying to make the units of this mod as close to real life units as I can.

point is NOT ALWAYS more polies is more eye candy :) Sometimes the better model may have fewer polygons, but still look way better and be more accurate

true, thats why i said "sometimes". But there is a limit to that. As u said smoother models need more polys. It all depends on how smooth you want it. I am trying to use very little polys at the bottom of the aircraft and more on the top as that will appear more in game. If you have any advice that can aid in keeping the same level of detail while reducing polys, i will be more than happy to hear it :) if you do inbox me

Description

Su-25SM Polys = 1380. Yesterday I finished all the planned graphics tests on the Zerohour SAGE engine. Results were the following:
1. The engine can handle textured aircrafts up to 1500 polys well along with explosions buildings and other stuff.
2. However the engine cant handle high poly textured ground units in the same environment without lag. Therefore I finally decided on a range of polys for ground units. Ground units on this mod will be between 650 to 1200 polys with most of them around 900 polys.
