Republic Assault is a full scale conversion mod for the Petroglyphy game Star Wars Forces of Corruption. Using elements from both the current canon, and existing EU to create the best possible game experience.
I'm sure that some of you have noticed a lack of updates since I posted those engine glows in September. At least, the ones beyond Elratie's showcases(The TIE Fury looks wicked, great job Elratie).
Anyways, I'd like to explain why, as I feel that that was kind of a shitty thing to do. To keep it short, it was a mix between real life, and commitments I made to other people. Between school and activities for school, I've had little to no free time, and a growing stack of assets other people asked me to do or I volunteered to do to try and help them out.
With the stress building for me, I decided to take a step back and go dark. Was that the best idea? No. Did it help me? I'd say yes.
I wish I could say that I used that free time to complete the outstanding projects, or improve my own, but I've just been doing a few odd jobs. If you've some how found my Steam profile, you might know what I've done a few XCom 2 mods, or that I recently picked up and started to mod Stellaris. The image used in the post is actually from one of the Stellaris mods I've started.
You can also find those XCom mods here: Steamcommunity.com
So now you might be wondering where I take this mod next. And to answer that, Republic Assault is in no way shape or form, dead. However, I would like to take on extra help for once to alleviate some of the workload so something like this doesn't happen again.
As it stands, I need someone who can work with Substance Painter. I can provide models, but if you have modeling skills, that's also great. If you have other skills that might be helpful, please reach out. I really don't need an XML coder though, not unless you want to take on the big stuff like the GC, planets, and their information.
Always great to hear from you Barlex. If you needed to take the time to step back, go dark then that's what you needed. It wasn't a bad idea, good things take time and those of us who are patient enough, are typically pleasantly surprised when the end result arrives.
Some people might think its a ****** thing to do, but frankly the fact is you're taking time out of your day, free of charge I might add, to build something for the community. That fact alone is incredibly generous and anyone who wants to take a bight out of you because of your own real life commitments really ought to rethink their own life choices.
Regardless of weather you're modding for EaW, X-com 2 or Stellaris, go at your own pace!
Keep up your damn fine work Sergeant! **salutes**
Also, you should totally speak to the rest of the EaW modding community on their respective discord channels, that is if you haven't already. I know for a fact that the guys from the Aotr Team and ICW, PE and Remake are always willing to lend a hand!
Thanks isa, it's nice to know that people still look forward to the work I do even with a period of going awol.
I guess the thing I feel the worst about is just abandoning the various projects I promised people.
I've talked with some of the other people in the community. They've been a great help with progressing, and learning, though I know they have their own projects to get done.
No worries, its a pleasure!
What can I say? I more or less came up for the name of this mod I'm pretty sure, so I have invested interests in seeing it succeed, my mod naming skills are at stake after all! :P ;)
I guess that's life though really. Its full of broken promises, sullied dreams and failed projects, which makes it all the more awesome when we, the fans, see you post something :) just keep plugging away as best you can!
Glad to hear it! They're a really wholesome bunch for the most part and those that aren't... well they can go eat a burning hot coal **cough** Alliance mod devs **cough** **cough**
I can help as tester, please relase version 0.9, Or cretate closed alpha group as Elite conflict mod.
When the time comes I'm sure Sergeant Barlex will call for testers when and if they need them. As they said in the description, they are looking for people who are skilled with Substance Painter, so maybe hold off offering your services as a beta tester for now :)
Perhaps you could send Barlex a PM when they post asking for testers and in the meantime, maybe you could learn a thing or two about modding? I my self have been trying to figure out XML coding, its slow going though that's for sure haha!
Little off topic about the beta tester thing, but if you're looking to learn XML a bit better, I can try to help. I could certainly use some help with things like that GC that got wiped out by my own fault.
Thanks for the offer, I’ll let you know :)
Nice try
If it wasn't for the fact that my laptop stopped working in december (Windows 10 destroyed it) I'd be willing to help but I can see what I can do as far as my connections in the Mod communities (Sins & EAW) and try to help that way.
Sorry to hear that, and thanks for the offer.
Hope you have a good Holiday season, Barlex!
Thanks Kem
...is that stellaris!?
Yeah, recently picked it up when I saw it on sale.
I love stellaris and I’m glad you’re getting into it. Take all the time you need with the mod.(or even better, release it quick) jk.! ;)
Dang, I'm gonna have to find that Stellaris mod once you finish it, looks like something right up my alley. Are you doing just a shipset or something, or is it a more expansive project?
For now, I'm just doing a ship set for the Systems Alliance that's compatible with the new ship class mod.
Though it's a bit of a personal project of mine. If there's enough demand, I'll release it with permission from the creator of the NSC mod.
Well, I'm not a huge fan of the current Alliance shipset that is out there right now, so if you do a better one, I would definitely be interested.
Do you know of any good Star Wars mods for Stellaris?
I've worked with XML a bit, mostly with editing Tomcat configuration files with Ansible's XML module and XPath. Dunno how much help I can be, but I wouldn't mind trying.
Perhaps you should send Barlex a PM?
