Raising the Bar is a mod based off of the idea of amalgamating the earliest concepts of Half-Life 2 into a coherent story. This mod is not a leak-fix, nor is it a concept art recreation gallery; it will be a full story with inspiration from the old material as well as our own ideas of how to make it all fit together.

Does air exchange exist in this world? If so shouldn't the sky be more green? I love the original theme of the sky being poisons gasses and the lighting varying from green to red.

The Airex does indeed exist, we just haven't gotten any custom skyboxes done yet to mirror the different times of day. We'll start working on those once most of the concepting is done, so it'll be a little while.

This map is intended to mirror the "Scrapland" concept which feature dark green, cloudy sky, thus I opted for the green haze in the background, but since it's during high noon or so, more daylight is featured.

Nice start, but whats with all the wierd sound effects? Most of them are fine, just that one when you start sprinting sounds kind of bad.

Also I don't really like the whole objective display thing.

Lastly, I know you are going to make the sky orange like the concept art, so do that. And it would look good if you had lots of combine structures around the outside of the beach, but just so you can see them, not go in. And have a few more combine ships fly past in the distance, this is all for the overall atmosphere. But good job so far!

But objectives were always part of Half-Life series. Remember how when you kill/lose some essential scientist or gurad in HL1, there was this message saying "Assignment Terminated", same in HL2 if you lose the jeep or anything similar... so technically there were always objectives (or assignments).

Yeah, but they weren't so obvious, like: go look at the dropship crash, you had to figure these things out for yourself, thats what separated Half-Life and Half-Life 2 from all the other games out there, it didn't treat you like a child who couldn't do things for himself, It let you take control and play the story as you would do it yourself, it made you feel rewarded when you figured out how to pass the level rather than any other game that just showed you the way and all it had to offer through a few enemies to fight.

What you need to do is have the dropship come close to the player and look at it, but you can see smoke coming out of the engine (maybe from a previous battle that you can see in the distance) and try to fire the gun (yes dropships do actually have guns even if they don't use them in HL2), but it malfunctions and sends it smashing into the rockwall nearby. This can also trigger rocks to fall down around it and expose the entrance to the antlion caves.

Oh and I almost forgot, more ambient music.

It's nice to see that RtB is still going, keep up the good work! My only suggestion is that you edit the surfaceprop for the dried soil to concrete, that would make more sense.

No it wasn't. They are just "new" and shotgun viewmodel is the same as in original Half-Life: 2, so it looks a bit confused. Sounds are actually good, footsteps and sprint noise must be different because of the

But shotgun sounds are messy, but not that ******. So it's not that much of mistake, but that "New Objective" reminder is a really, really GIANT MISTAKE

I think ships shouldn't be stuck in the seafloor + seafloor itself is too high or cranes are too low,also, i think optimization (to this improves i talked about) would consist of removing some areas that player wouldn't see in the first place. And of course, crashing sound is a bit too fast, dropship was flying in that time.

This mod will feature a day/night cycle, so it will be like on concept art, or at least other map will be with sunset, but i still prefer more dark and scary planet atmosphere)

when your walking on some of the textures it sounds like your walking on stone or brick when your walking on natural material, maybe problem with the vmt for the texture?

Hey guys, this is one of our first little gameplay videos in quite some time. Cvox has added a bit more to the map in terms of gameplay features, but keep in mind this is still a very early WiP and there is more placeholder content than custom.
(Also forgive the Cyrillic HUD, that's not permanent. :P )
