Speedmodding is a competition where coders try and make a complete mod within a predefined boundary of time. Quake has a long and decorated history of speedmodding events of all sorts of types and lengths, and that tradition still lives.

This is the Quake Speedmodding Competition #00, not to imply that it is the first, but that it is the first that we have tried to enumerate. So consider this the first of the new era of speedmodding.

#00 was held by Harb on Inside3d.com and gamesnet #qc on the weekend of Friday 28th January to Saturday the 29th, 2005.

The modders were given a single map with a set of unlabelled entities in it, and were told to create any mod they liked with the resources supplied.

Several varied mods were produced:

Helix by MauveBib
This mod will randomly spawn four spinning helices around the level. Every time you collect a helix, another one will appear somewhere and a zombie will spawn somewhere in the level. The catch is that you have no weapon, so get dodging!

My First Speedmod by Randy
This mod fills the entire level with grenade launchers, actively launching dozens of air grenades a second (you might want to tweak some settings to be able to play this!), that will not hurt you but will toss you around like a ragdoll. Your objective is to kill the dogs that infest the level, and your weapon is ... a dog, 'impaled' on your arm.

Enforcers Insane! by VorteX
A mod with beefed up enforcers ready to take you out with pumped AI, while you have been given an arsenal of weapons similar to those used by the Enforcers themselves.

The Strength of Eleven Men by Sajt
In this mod your objective is to feed the puppy faster than the competition can. Your tool is the fish, which you must use to transport the food, and slap your opponents. Your quest may not be so easy: a Shambler lurks in one of the hallways, and the puppy doesn't take kindly to those who done bring him food...

Harb Said Something about Fish by Supa
Each player is spawned into the level with one goal: to collect as many fish as humanly possible. Players can also choose to frag each other, but this does not help their fish gathering exploits one bit.

I'm going to try a couple of these, the zombie dodger mod sounds interesting anyway.
